Family Planning Health Educator
The Family Planning Program, part of the Community Health Services Division of Public Health – Seattle & King County, is seeking three (3) dedicated and enthusiastic community-basedFamily Planning Health Educators to serve our diverse King County communities. The Family Planning Program provides comprehensive sexual and reproductive clinical services in four (4) Public Health Clinics, delivers innovative health education and outreach in our communities, and produces the nationally recognized FLASH curriculum. Family Planning Health Educators work to increase King County residents’ access to high quality sexual and reproductive health services and to institutionalize the provision of sound sexual health education programs and practices, particularly in settings serving teens and marginalized adults.
The classification for these positions is Educator Consultant I. Work will take place at home clinic sites, in the community and via telecommuting as dictated by community and program needs. The positions are full-time (1.0 FTE) with the following breakdown of location, job type and estimated term limit.

*TLT/Special Duty positions will provide backfill while two team members are redeployed with COVID-related work. These backfill positions will end when redeployed team members return from their COVID-related work. - Job Duties
*These positions may include the following duties depending on program needs and the unique needs of each catchment.
- Collaborate with community agencies and coalitions, especially at sites that serve marginalized teens & adults, to provide or ensure the provision of science-based sexual health education and to improve individuals’ access to care.
- Provide individual sexual health education to teens and adults in a family planning clinic.
- Develop, promote and/or market education materials and information that are medically accurate, culturally appropriate and educationally sound, using health literacy best practices.
- Design and implement community outreach strategies for local family planning clinics and school-based health centers.
- Analyze, interpret, and disseminate sexual and reproductive health data.
- Provide technical assistance to school district staff and teachers, as well as partner agencies, to promote the effective prevention of unintended pregnancy, sexually transmitted diseases, and sexual violence.
- Provide training to school staff, teachers, health care providers and other professionals regarding sexual and reproductive health care access and sexual health education.
- Work within the Department’s, Division’s, and Family Planning Program’s stated goals.
- Participate in Department and/or Public Health Center emergency response development, trainings and drills, aid in response to emergency situations and summon other health care providers and emergency personnel in a timely and appropriate manner when necessary.

- Access to personal vehicle to travel to multiple sites in areas not well-served by public transportation in a timely manner. Mileage reimbursement provided for eligible travel.
- Prior experience working with adolescents and marginalized adults regarding sensitive issues.
- Prior experience providing birth control, options counseling, and STD education to individuals in a clinic setting.
- Prior experience providing education to groups on any of the following topics: unintended pregnancy prevention, STD and HIV prevention, sexual violence, healthy relationships, sexual orientation, gender identity, and puberty.
- Prior experience creating more welcoming environments for marginalized communities, including people who are adolescents, bilingual, and/or LGBTQ.
- Demonstrated ability to develop social media campaigns, website content and/or print materials, using health literacy best practices.
- Prior experience conducting clinic or program outreach.
- Bilingual English / Spanish strongly desired
