Family Recovery Support Specialist
- Summary
This position is responsible for engaging and retaining Family Treatment Court program participants in substance use disorder recovery programs. The incumbent acts as a liaison between program participants, family members, Family Treatment Court team members and treatment organizations to eliminate obstacles to recovery and child well-being.

Work schedule and terms: This full-time position is hourly and overtime-eligible. The workweek will vary and can include weekends, but will be 35 hours per week.
Work location: This position is located at the Maleng Regional Justice Center in Kent, WA. The incumbent may be required to work at other locations.

The following duties are not intended to represent the entire functional capacity of the position at the task level.
Engage and retain Family Treatment Court program participants using experiential knowledge and motivational interviewing techniques.
Act as a liaison between program participants, family members, Family Treatment Court program staff and treatment organizations to eliminate obstacles to substance use recovery and child well-being.
Facilitate program participants' involvement with treatment agencies and communities of recovery by arranging and/or providing transportation to meetings and events, providing assistance in accessing public benefits, and attending sober activities with program participants.
Provide recovery-focused skill training to engage program participants in full community participation, including education, employment, housing, budgeting, social and family activities and relationships.
Assist parents in obtaining, coordinating and scheduling services for their children. Attend appointments with children and parents when appropriate, contact providers, and empower parents to advocate for their children's special needs.
Perform other duties of a similar nature and level.- Experience, Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills
High school diploma or general equivalency diploma (GED). Recovery from substance use with two years of sobriety required. Experience-based knowledge of substance use recovery and the substance use recovery community strongly preferred. Specialized training or work experience as a peer partner or recovery coach in the field of substance use, mental health, children's services and/or child welfare strongly preferred. Prior participation in a Family Treatment Court program preferred. Must have experience interacting with multi-cultural populations.
Knowledge of King County's child welfare, substance use and mental health system and available resources for King County residents required. Knowledge of confidentiality requirements related to mental health and substance use information required. Knowledge of strengths-based communication techniques, and understanding of the ecology of recovery required. Current working knowledge of community and social services and referral procedures required.- Supplemental Information
Necessary special requirements: The ability to reliably travel throughout the County is required. Must possess a valid Washington State driver's license. Finalists are subject to the Washington State Patrol criminal background check and a reference check. Criminal background records are not automatically disqualifying.
As of December 6, 2021, King County Superior Court employees are required to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19. Your response to questions regarding vaccination status will be reviewed as part of Superior Court' hiring process.
