Summary


Control your own schedule on this Field Operations Safety Advisor position all over King County. You will work independently and closely with a diverse, motivated, experienced team of supervisors and managers. You have the opportunity to influence the safety culture of the Solid Waste Division and make a difference in how Supervision and Employees view and improve Safety.

You will be working with the SWD Management and Supervisor Team in conjunction with SWD’s Safety Emergency Management Unit (SEMU). You will perform Safety Audits on Solid Waste Facilities, facilitate and attend crew safety meetings, conduct regular site visits and work with employees and management on safety issues, and support operations compliance with local, state and federal safety and health regulations.

 What You’ll Be Doing:
  • Assist with or conduct accident or near miss incident investigations and make recommendations to reduce further risk or possible reoccurrence OSHA 500 and/or 510 Certification
  • Review or accompany weekly and monthly safety site inspections 
  • Coordinate with employees to understand safety concerns and advise on accident prevention
  • Assist in coordinating, scheduling, and tracking annual safety training, audiometric testing and other medical surveillance and safety related activities and necessary or prompted by Safety Emergency Management Unit (SEMU)
  • Coordinate with Supervisors to implement corrective actions identified by Solid Waste Operations and SEMU
  • Other duties as assigned 
Working Conditions:
  • Onsite Work Requirement: The work associated with this position will be performed at Cedar Hills Regional Landfill and eight (8) transfer stations located throughout King County; http://your.kingcounty.gov/solidwaste/facilities/transfer.asp.
  • Work Schedule: This position works a 40-hour work week, Monday through Friday.   
  • FLSA Status: This position is overtime eligible.
  • Union Representation: This classification is represented by Teamsters, Local 117 Administrative Employees.
You Should Have:
  • 1-3 years of experience in a safety position with increasing levels of responsibility or a bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health, Safety, Engineering, Industrial Hygiene or related field.
  • Experience or education in a broad range of safety and health programs such as:
    1. Occupational health and safety principles, practices, equipment and resources.
    2. Federal, State laws, codes, rules and regulations relating to the safety and health of employees.
    3. Hazard Survey techniques and statistical methods for analyzing accident, injury, and related data.
    4. The ability to use a computer software applicable to the duties of the position. 
  • Possession of OSHA 500 and/or 510 Certification
