Fleet Shop Supervisor

The Fleet Services Division is searching for a strong leader who thrives in a challenging fast paced environment while leading multiple teams and operations. As the Fleet Shop Supervisor, you will be responsible for the supervision of a variety of daily operations and positions including Light and Heavy Duty Mechanics, Equipment Service Maintenance Specialists, Maintenance Planner Schedulers and Supervisor I’s. Our ideal candidate will be known for building cohesive teams and who establishes and maintains positive relationships with employees, vendors, and coworkers! A successful candidate is a self-starter who has excellent leadership skills, interpersonal skills, ability to lead in a fast-paced environment, successfully managing teams independently.
This recruitment may be used to fill any vacancies in this classification for up to one year including temporary and special duty roles.
"These are 2021 rates and will go up now that the labor contract is approved."
SCOPE OF JOB DUTIES: The successful candidate, at a minimum, will demonstrate skill or ability to:- Provide daily direction for operations staff and ensure compliance with policies and procedures.
- Provide leadership and supervision including direction, assistance, recognition, time management, attendance, coaching, and supporting growth and development.
- Work with teams to on continuous process improvement and provide leadership in employee engagement.
- Assist the Fleet Operations Manager in planning and monitoring budget expenditures for operations.
- Evaluate staffing needs and assist in screening and selecting employees, including developing field tests, interviewing candidates, and making hiring recommendations.
- Provide excellent customer service in day-to-day interactions with internal and external customers.
- Ensure day to day management of work units are consistent with terms of applicable collective bargaining agreements and applied fairly to all covered employees.
WE ARE LOOKING FOR CANDIDATES WHO:- Have a strong background and experience in leading a team in one or more of these areas: Automotive shops, heavy-duty mechanical/maintenance shops, Field service repair and/ or Industrial work environment OR an equivalent background of education and experience.
- Is a champion for Equity & Social Justice. Understands that systematic racism and its long-term effects are pervasive in our society. Are comfortable having candid and sincere conversations with employees and others about race and equity in the workplace.
- Have experience applying supervisory principles and practices in a represented/union environment, including work planning and performance management, and assigning, coordinating, and supervising work of employees at multiple sites and/or multiple bargaining groups in the same position.
- Have experience with occupational hazards and safety precautions in a shop work environment which includes maintenance shop and transportation.
- Demonstrate use of good judgment in dealing with conflict with a high degree of tact and diplomacy, OR an equivalent background of education and experience.
- Enjoy working collaboratively in a team environment. Willing to pitch in to help other team members.
- Have working knowledge of County, Washington State and federal laws and regulations pertaining to passenger vehicles and construction equipment.
- Have proactive time management skills and successfully complete tasks on time and supporting team members to complete tasks on time. Enjoys juggling multiple competing priorities with tight timelines and efficiently prioritizes work.
- Have the ability to effectively respond after hours to support customers during emergencies and/or natural disasters which could include flooding, snow/ice events, windstorms and earthquakes.
- Are comfortable using office productivity tools, relational databases, and payroll/financial systems in their daily work. (The county uses Microsoft Office, PeopleSoft Time & Labor, and Faster for Fleet Management).

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
The work associated with this position will be performed onsite.
Employees will be provided with a County issued laptop and must maintain a workspace with an internet connection where they can reliably perform work and remain available and responsive during scheduled work hours. Employees must reside in WA state and within a reasonable distance to their King County worksite to respond to workplace reporting requirements. There will be situations where the employee is required to report to a county worksite. Please note that when employee conducts work that is likely to bring them in contact with another individual, safety precautions are required by the department in alignment with the Public Health Directive from the Seattle & King County Public Health Officer.
