Forensic Autopsy Technician - Anthro

The King County Medical Examiner’s Office (KCMEO) is seeking a full time Forensic Autopsy Technician with specific experience in forensic anthropology support and identification. This position will work with a remote Forensic Anthropologist, organizing cases, and working directly with the anthropologist when she is in the office (once per month). This technician will also serve as a back-up to the regular autopsy technician team.

At the direction of the Forensic Anthropologist:
- Perform photographic documentation of bodies, wounds, trauma and associated evidentiary aspects of a case
- Take full body, dental, and fluoroscopy X-rays and determine placement and composition
- Complete maceration on cases
- Inventory skeletonized remains
- Assist in writing/editing forensic anthropology reports
- Assist in sorting co-mingled remains
- Prepare bones for DNA analysis
- Take cases for CAT scans
- Enter unidentified data into NamUs
- Communicate with coroners, medical examiners, and law enforcement agencies across the state to obtain and share information on cases
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Experience, Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills
- Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, and physiology
- Knowledge of skeletal biology, including individual bone identification
- Knowledge of chain of custody
- Skill in treating human remains with sensitivity and respect
- Ability to maintain confidentiality regarding cases
- Experience with forensic anthropology casework and documentation
- Experience with X-ray equipment
- Experience with identification methods such as DNA sampling and submission paperwork, and NamUs submission
- A high level of organizational skills and attention to detail
- Knowledge of standard office equipment, including computer systems and databases
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Demonstrated success working independently and as part of a team
- Skill in dealing with death, and human remains in various stages of decomposition, disease, and trauma
- Experience assisting with autopsies
EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS- Any combination of education and experience that clearly demonstrates the ability to perform the job duties of the position

Work Schedule: This position will work primarily Monday through Friday, 7:30am to 4:30pm 40 hours per week, with some evening and weekend hours.
Work Location: Medical Examiner's Office located at Harborview Medical Center 908 Jefferson St. Seattle, WA 98104.
