Summary
Metro's Vehicle Maintenance division has a Special Duty Assignment opportunity to hire a Program/Project Manager III to provide support and contribution to the Gender Equity initiative in VM. The PPM III may also support projects related to the development and implementation of Transit's Equity, Inclusion and Belonging (EIB) program. The anticipated duration for this growth opportunity Special Duty Assignment is 2 years and may be extended.
We are only accepting applications from current King County Metro Transit employees who have passed their initial KC probationary period. First consideration will be given to current Vehicle Maintenance Division employees.
This position will be responsible for facilitating, coordinating, and implementing key equity and belonging projects and providing professional executive assistance to the Vehicle Maintenance leadership team. The person selected for this assignment must have a commitment to diversity and inclusion, and strong communication and strategic project management skills. Additionally, they must be a "Visionary Leader" who can strategically and effectively see processes and projects through completion.

Work Schedule
Typical work schedule may be Monday through Friday, 8:00 am - 5:00 pm. Work outside normal business hours may be required occasionally. Alternate work schedules may be considered. This position is exempt from the provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act and is not eligible for overtime pay.
Work Location
This is a hybrid position (teleworking and in office). The work associated with this position will be performed or conducted through a combination of teleworking and onsite work and meetings. There is a requirement to do some onsite work at multiple Vehicle Maintenance bases throughout King County. Employees will have access to shared workspaces at various King County facilities. Employees must reside in Washington state and within a reasonable distance to their King County worksite to respond to workplace reporting requirements.

Job Duties

- Engage staff and management on diversity and inclusion concerns, gather feedback to synthesize into work plans.
- Manage efforts to complete implementation of the Vehicle Maintenance Initiative, recommendations, and work plans. Oversee work plans and collaborate with Vehicle Maintenance leadership team, the office of Equity Inclusion and Belonging, Transit Vehicle Maintenance employees and management, union leadership, and others to ensure successful development and implementation of project plans.
- Manage, coordinate, and ensure effective communication to stakeholders related to activities and information associated with the VM Initiative. Provide clear, concise, and practical communication to staff and senior management.
- Draft, review and distribute various written documents (i.e., newsletters, memos etc.) and coordinate marketing and branding efforts for the VM Initiative.
- Promote a diverse and inclusive work environment and support diversity and inclusion goals.
- Manage the development, tracking, of diversity and inclusion metrics and present to key stakeholders.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
We are looking for candidates who meet the following Minimum Qualifications:
- Strong commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion. Understanding of workplace diversity and inclusion concept/practices.
- Knowledge and skill organizing, scheduling, planning, and executing high profile multifaceted projects using practical project coordination and management abilities, principles, and processes from vision to implementation.
- Skill in facilitating conversations about difficult topics around equity with folks that are resistant to change.
- Skill to coach leaders on behavior changes around their daily equity practices and routines.
- Knowledge and skill managing projects for a large organization with diverse business operations. Must have experience working with cross-functional teams with a variety of individuals from diverse backgrounds.
- Must be able to think strategically and implement locally.
- Advanced skill in effectively communicating orally and in writing, including making formal presentations to large diverse groups and committees. Ability to effectively facilitate and guide conversations during presentations and meetings.
- Skill in leading others in problem-solving, conflict resolution, negotiating and decision making.
- Skill in being transparent in decision making process and planning.
- Ability to work effectively to develop finished work products developed from diverse viewpoints when ambiguity and limited precedents exist.
- Experience handling multiple competing priorities. Ability to prioritize workload, manage logistics and work on multiple projects and changing priorities in a fast-paced environment while using good judgement. Strong organizational skills and excellent attention to detail.
- Experience managing sensitive information responsibly and keeping information confidential.
- Skill in gathering, analyzing, and synthesizing data; skill in effective paper and report writing, skill in effectively presenting statistical and narrative information to non-technical stakeholders or audiences.
- Must be poised and professional with the ability to take a proactive and collaborative approach with individuals at all levels of the organization.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Power Point, Outlook, Teams, and SharePoint.
- Knowledge of the history of oppression in public transit.
- Knowledge of EEO and Diversity & Inclusion principles & concepts.
- Ability to mobilize diverse groups toward desired outcome.
- Knowledge of nondiscrimination laws.
