The Department of Adult and Juvenile Detention (DAJD) seeks two customer-focused Human Resource Associates to provide a variety of highly responsible, confidential, and detailed talent acquisition efforts, administrative and technical support to the recruitment team.
The work associated with these positions are expected to have a hybrid work schedule to meet business needs. In-office work will be necessary for one to two days per week, with the remainder of the week typically working remote.

The Department of Adult and Juvenile Detention (DAJD) is seeking (1) one full-time Career Service Human Resource Associate and (1) one full-time Human Resources Associate (TLT or SDA) to join our team! The Human Resources Associates will perform a wide variety of human resources/administrative functions.
Special Duty & Term Limited Temporary Assignments: The temporary position is scheduled to last 18 months; however, the exact duration may end earlier or be extended based on operational needs. Rate of pay will be in accordance with applicable bargaining agreements and/or Career Service Guidelines. Special Assignments do not confer any privilege, right of appeal, or right of position, transfer, demotion, promotion, or reinstatement, and can be revoked at any time with or without cause.
DAJD's MISSION: The Department of Adult and Juvenile Detention contributes to the public safety of the citizens of King County and Washington State by operating safe, secure and humane detention facilities and community corrections programs, in an innovative and cost-effective manner.- Job Duties
The job descriptions are overviews and are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed. - Provide quality customer service by ensuring accurate information, defensible advice and thorough consultation with applicants, employees, supervisors and managers on a variety of human resources issues in a highly unionized environment.
- Support the recruitment team by responding to general inquiries, following up with candidates regarding applications/consideration, and coordinating/facilitating completion of all phases of the background investigation process (e.g. fingerprinting, Criminal History Checks, lie detection, psychological evaluations, reference checks, scheduling interviews, and pre-employment physical examinations).
- Actively participate and promote DAJD at career fairs on college campuses and local job fairs. This will be done virtually and in person, when appropriate.
- Support and contribute to the continuous process improvement of HR practices and processes.
- Perform data analysis and generate spreadsheets and reports as needed.
- Process separations and terminations of the department.
- Facilitate backgrounding process for stakeholders seeking access to DAJD information or facilities.
- Process Jail ID cards and photos for both DAJD staff and non-DAJD staff who require access to our secure detention facilities.
- Create and issue shift change notifications.
- Manage and track department’s I-9 forms.
- Experience, Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills
- Three (3) years of experience as an administrative professional to include one (1) year working in support of human resources; OR,
- A combination of training, education and experience equivalent to that listed above which would provide the required knowledge and abilities; and,
- Demonstrated ability maintaining a professional demeanor and providing timely and reliable customer service; and,
- Strong organization skills and demonstrated ability to manage quickly changing priorities and quickly changing information; and,
- Demonstrated experience maintaining confidentiality, personal integrity and dependability; and,
- Skilled oral and written communicator to a diverse audience; and,
- Experience in problem solving, analyzing and assessing information; and,
- Strong demonstrated commitment to providing excellent customer service to applicants, current employees, supervisors and managers; and,
- Possess the skills necessary to effectively work as a part of a team, as well as independently, as a self-starter with the ability to prioritize and manage own work; and,
- Able to develop strong and effective working relationships with colleagues within all levels of the department and external stakeholders; and,
- Excellent computer skills that include: Word, Excel, Outlook.
Desirable candidates will also have:- Knowledge of human resources employment practices and guidelines.
- Demonstrated skill and experience in the use of PeopleSoft, NeoGov, or other HRIS system.
- Demonstrated skill in the use of Neogov or other electronic applicant tracking systems.

WORK SCHEDULE: This position will work a 40-hour work week and is overtime eligible (provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act). Standard work hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m.-4:30 p.m.
WORK LOCATION: 516 Third Avenue, Room E-245, Seattle, WA 98104. Occasionally work location may include the Maleng Regional Justice Center in Kent.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: It is a hiring requirement that all staff employed by DAJD successfully pass a thorough background investigations process, which includes fingerprinting, criminal history check, a polygraph examination (if applicable), reference checks, and other tests as deemed necessary.
TELECOMMUTING: More than half of the work for this position will be performed onsite but there may be opportunities for telecommuting, depending on operational need.
Any work performed via telecommuting will be in compliance with King County’s telecommuting mandate. Employees will be provided with a County issued laptop and must maintain a workspace with an internet connection where they can reliably perform work and remain available and responsive during scheduled work hours. Employees must reside in WA state and within a reasonable distance to their King County worksite to respond to workplace reporting requirements. There will be situations where the employee is required to report to a County worksite. Please note that when an employee conducts work that is likely to bring them in contact with another individual, safety precautions are required by the department in alignment with the Public Health Directive from the Seattle & King County Public Health Officer.
