Approximately 90 million gallons a day of wastewater is treated at West Point Treatment Plant during the dry months. During the rain/storm season, West Point provides secondary treatment for flows up to 300 million gallons a day (mgd) and provides primary treatment and disinfection for flows exceeding 300 mgd and up to 440 mgd. Employee will be involved in a variety of work ranging from small individual projects to major pump repairs.

Job Duties

  • Troubleshoot engines, pumps, generators, compressors, boilers and related assigned equipment
  • Install large industrial engines, right-angle gearboxes and ancillary systems, as designed
  • Overhaul/rebuild industrial engines, gas and air compressors, and various other components
  • Perform preventive maintenance and routine service on a wide variety of industrial engines, generators, compressors and other assigned equipment
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Working Conditions
  • Work Location:  West Point Treatment Plant - 1400 Discovery Park Blvd, Seattle, WA 98199
  • Work Schedule:  This position is covered under the provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) and is overtime eligible.? This full-time position works a 40-hour work week.??
  • Union Representation:  This position is represented by S.E.I.U. 925 (Wastewater Treatment Division). 

Experience, Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills

  • Knowledge equivalent to five years of demonstrated journey-level experience on diesel and/or multi-fueled gas engines up to 5,000 horsepower; 

  • Knowledge of electronic ignition and governing systems; 

  • Knowledge of diesel and/or gaseous industrial engine repairs up to 5,000 horsepower; 

  • Knowledge of the use of (power and hand) tools and rigging equipment; 

  • Knowledge of lubricating oils; 

  • Knowledge of precision measuring tools and devices; 

  • Knowledge of troubleshooting software and hardware used in the diagnosis and analysis of engines and generator problems; 

  • Knowledge of welding techniques and principles; 

  • Knowledge of machine shop tools, drill presses, band saw, arbor and hydraulic presses and equipment; 

  • Knowledge of low-pressure boilers and steam systems; 

  • Knowledge of measuring equipment micrometer, dial indicators, etc.; 

  • Knowledge of the operation and maintenance of industrial engines; 

  • Skill in aligning large machinery; 

  • Demonstrated skill in welding; 

  • Demonstrated skill in pipefitting; 

  • Skill in engine maintenance and overhaul; 

  • Communication skills.

Licensing, Certification and Other Requirements 
  • Washington State Driver’s License

  • CDL w/ hazardous materials endorsement may be required.

  • Additional licenses, certifications and other requirements determined to be necessary to meet the business needs of the employing unit may be required

  • The position requires the ability to work all shift schedules and required to report to work during adverse and inclement weather conditions

  • Incumbents perform field work at a wastewater treatment plant and associated facilities and are required to lift and carry equipment weighing up to 50 pounds, work in confined spaces, climb in and out of tanks using ladders, and work around noxious odors and high noise levels
