Summary
The King County Wastewater Treatment Division (WTD) has a staffing need for an experienced and technically proficient Industrial Maintenance Electrician.
This position performs a variety of highly skilled journey-level work by constructing, troubleshooting, maintaining, and wiring a wide variety of equipment and conducting preventive maintenance programs at a wastewater collection and treatment facility, including pumping and regulating stations. Working as journey level electrician, independently or cooperatively with other electricians, other skilled trades, and industrial plant operations staff. To work safely in an industrial setting using appropriate PPE, using proper Lock-Out Tag Out procedures around electrical, mechanical, and environmental hazards, including working in Permit-Required Confined Spaces. Ability to work in emergency situations and be a part of an on-call standby rotation.

WORKING CONDITIONS:
- Work Location: South Treatment Plant - 1200 Monster Road SW, Renton WA.
- Work Schedule: This is a full time 40-hour work week, 4/10-hour day shifts starting Mondays or Tuesdays depending on business needs. Non-exempt (overtime eligible).
- Union Representation: This position is represented by SEIU local 925.
- Perform maintenance and repairs on low (0-1000 volts), medium (1 KV-72.5KV) and high (72.5 KV - 242 KV) voltage switchgear, transformer and distribution systems and power generation systems including standby emergency generating, co-generating systems and ancillary equipment.
- Install, maintain, troubleshoot, and perform preventive maintenance on motor control centers, including associated control devices such as relays, timers, switches, and interlocks.
- Install, maintain, troubleshoot, and repairs to variable frequency and direct current drives including adjustment of speed profiles, troubleshooting and repairs to component levels and replacement when needed.
- Install, troubleshoot, reprogram and modify programmable logic controllers. Design and modify control circuits and related control devices and equipment.
- Interpret displayed data, troubleshoot, maintain and perform various repairs of distributive control systems and related hardware.
- Install, modify and upgrade new and existing electrical systems, fixtures and other related electrical equipment in compliance with current municipal and national electrical codes.
- Perform preventive maintenance and repair of uninterruptible power supply equipment including the servicing and replacement of batteries and other battery power sources.
- Repair and maintain the electrical equipment and controls associated with gas systems including gas compressors, gas drying systems, waste gas burners, flares, vaporizers and boilers.
- Perform thermal imaging of electrical equipment, interpret results, create reports and repair problems.
- Review and update program documentation, and engineering drawings to facilitate coordination of maintenance efforts.
- Coordinate activities, schedule outages, and work cooperatively with those performing other crafts. Write material requests as needed for replacement of defective parts and to obtain additions to spare parts inventory.
- Provide on the job training for new and other skilled trades positions.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Knowledge equivalent to 3 years of related journey-level experience in an industrial setting or manufacturing plant
- Knowledge of national electrical codes, and electrical theory
- Knowledge of principles of electrical distribution and generation and equipment including but not limited to transformers, circuit breakers, protective relays, disconnect switches, voltage regulators, automatic transfer switches, synchronizing and power monitoring equipment
- Knowledge of different functions of electrical equipment including but not limited to battery, control, automation, lighting, motor, heating and cooling
- Knowledge of and skill in electrical troubleshooting and diagnosis of UPS systems
- Knowledge of electrical test equipment used for electrical troubleshooting, diagnosis, and preventive maintenance. Equipment includes but not limited to ammeter (AC/DC), megohorn meter, multimeter, oscilloscope, tachometer, power quality analyzers, thermal imaging cameras and meters
- Knowledge of PLCs (programmable logic controllers) including but not limited to hardware, programming software and communication protocols.
- Knowledge of and experience with AC/DC motors and controls. Skilled in the installation, programming, maintenance, and repair of and variable frequency (speed) drives.
- Knowledge of and experience in applying safety practices for electrical (low, medium, and high) voltages, mechanical and environmental hazards such as hazardous chemicals, gasses, and confined spaces
- Knowledge of and experience with computers, including hardware and software communication skills.
- Ability and experience in working in a team environment and working independently.
- Skill in the safe operation and use of basic hand and power tools, trade tools such as conduit benders and pipe threaders and electrical and electronic test equipment.
- Skill in bending and installing conduit per the National Electrical Code (NEC)
- Skill in installing, pulling, soldering, splicing, and terminating wire
- Skill in creating or modifying new or existing electrical drawings
- Experience with VFD's
- Experience troubleshooting Industrial motor controls.
- Washington State Driver's License
- Completion of an apprenticeship program, or two years of technical schooling and/or the equivalent related experience.
- The position requires the ability to work all shift schedules and required to report to work during adverse and inclement weather conditions and be on a rotating call list after a 9- month probationary period.
- Incumbents perform field work at a wastewater treatment plant and associated off-site facilities and are required to lift and carry equipment weighing up to 50 pounds, work in confined spaces, kneel, crawl, walk and climb using ladders, catwalks, and stairways, work indoor and outdoor, in open tanks and vaults, and around noxious odors and high noise levels
