We are seeking a GRADUATE INTERN who is proactive, curious, and drives for results. These opportunities will provide personal development and exposure to various aspects of public sector finance and business operations while in partnership with seasoned staff mentors.
 
This position is anticipated to start in August and will last through the 2021-22 school, depending on the candidate's school schedule and our business needs. During school breaks, the intern may work up to 40 hours per week and during school hours will be negotiated based on academic needs.
 
NOTE: Intern must be currently enrolled in graduate school.  First Review of Applications will begin August 1, 2021 and will continue until the position is filled.

The Director’s Office is a small yet mighty team that helps keep the division running smoothly. From Equity and Social Justice, Lean, Human Resources and Budget, you’ll find that our team members wear many hats and work on a diverse range of programs. The Director’s Office works with other divisions and departments to drive for results that make us One King County.
 
Learning Objectives

Equity & Social Justice (ESJ):

  • Support end-to-end planning of trainings, marketing, and reporting in alignment with FBOD’s ESJ Action Plan and King County’s Strategic Plan.
  • Track and visualize program performance and metrics for end-of-year report out to division and department.
  • Update and curate social media library for ESJ initiative including but not limited to articles, videos, podcasts, and powerful images.
Communications:
  • Create and update our division-wide communications using SharePoint, Constant Contact, and other publishing tools.
  • Communicate success stories around our Equity and Social Justice Work, Employee Engagement, Lean Initiative, and process improvements, as well as update Director's Office Visual Board.
Special Projects:
  • Support Division leadership by working on cross-functional projects including legislation, policy updates, employee engagement, Lean, and other general administrative functions as needed.

Who may apply:
The recruitment for this position is open to all qualified graduate level college students currently enrolled full-time or part-time for the 2021-2022 school year. You will need to provide proof of enrollment. Applicants from this recruitment may be used to fill future intern opportunities. The most competitive candidates may be invited to participate in a skills assessment, phone screen and panel interview process.  First Review of Applications will begin August 1, 2021 and will continue until the position is filled. First round testing and interviews are anticipated to be held the week of August 9, 2021.  Interested candidates must be available during these dates.

Other Position Information: 
This position is overtime eligible. Our employees are paid on a bi-weekly schedule, every other Thursday, normally between 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. The position will be working from 20 hours to a maximum of 40 hours per week depending on school schedule. This position is not represented by a union. Applicants from this recruitment may be used to fill other internship opportunities.
 
Teleworking Requirement: 
The work associated with this position will be performed through a combination of teleworking complemented with onsite work and meetings as needed. Employees will have access to shared work spaces at various King County facilities.  Employees must reside in Washington state and within a reasonable distance to their King County work site to respond to workplace reporting requirements.
   
Employees will be provided with a County issued laptop and must maintain a work space with an internet connection (access may be supplemented in some situations) where they can reliably perform work and remain available and responsive during scheduled work hours. Please note that when an employee conducts work that is likely to bring them in contact with another individual, safety precautions are required, including the wearing of masks in some situations. King County is doing its part to reduce the spread of COVID-19 and remains committed to reducing our carbon footprint.
