- Summary
Jail Health Services, a division of Public Health – Seattle & King County is excited to announce recruitment of one full time supply team lead who will help lead and support our JHS Supply Team alongside another lead, supervisors and front line supply staff.
The lead will be responsible for purchasing and management of standard and non-standard specialized medical and office supply inventory for the Jail Health Services division. The lead will also be responsible for oversight and processing of office furniture supply and equipment requests. The lead will provide day to day supply team oversight, support, and training for front line supply staff.
The lead will be assigned to a primary work site (either King County Correctional Facility in Seattle or the Maleng Regional Justice Center in Kent), but is expected to work at the alternate site at least one day per week to ensure awareness of JHS supply system needs and to be able to provide backup for the other lead or front line supply staff at either site if necessary.
This is a Term-Limited Temporary opportunity. Term-Limited Temporary positions are "at-will" positions but are eligible for benefits. This TLT is currently anticipated to last until December 31, 2024. However, funding sources for this work remain uncertain and dependent upon decisions actively being made at both the federal and local levels. As a result, the end date of this position may be adjusted based on those decisions. The County and the Department continue to work to secure long term funding sources.

JHS provides needed health and social services to the incarcerated population located in the King County jails – King County Correctional Facility (KCCF) in Seattle, WA and Maleng Regional Justice Center (MRJC) in Kent, WA. The primary services we provide include medical, dental, mental health, social and release planning services, treatment of substance use disorders, and pharmaceutical services. We care about the patients we serve and their health outcomes. Our Division includes over 230 employees and a bi-annual budget of over $80 million.
The purpose of JHS is to assure that high-quality health and human services are available to the incarcerated population in the King County adult correctional facilities: the King County Correctional Facility (KCCF) in Seattle and the Maleng Regional Justice Center (MRJC) in Kent. The JHS vision is Opening doors to healthier, happier lives, and the mission is To assess and stabilize serious health problems for the detained population of the King County Correctional Facility and the Maleng Regional Justice Center with a focus on transition from jail.
Staffed 24 hours per day, 7 days per week, 365 days per year, JHS provides a broad range of health care to all individuals booked into the jails. For patients with serious mental health or medical conditions, special housing units (psychiatric and infirmary) along with a higher level of services and medical monitoring are provided. Since the patient population varies both in numbers as well as in acuity of health conditions, staffing is adapted and flexed to meet the constantly changing needs of the population.
JHS staff manage the complex health needs of underserved populations many of whom come to the facility without access to care in the community and with decompensated acute and chronic health conditions.

The work schedule for this lead position will be Tuesday through Saturday with hours primarily being on day shift (7:00am – 3:30pm). Alternate work hours may be negotiable. Some evening, weekend, and holiday work may be required depending on operational needs. These positions may allow for up to one day per week telecommuting for administrative tasks.- Job Duties
The primary responsibilities of this position include purchasing and management of specialized medical and office supply inventory for the Jail Health Services medical practice and serving as the leads of the Jail Health Services supply team across the two King County correctional facilities. This position will report to the JHS Health Operations Manager or Site Operations Manager, depending on primary site designation. The position will also be responsible for the following duties:
- Support day to day supply operations of the JHS division by providing good customer service to the various JHS teams (Medical, dental, nursing, pharmacy, HIMS, Psych and Social Services, etc.). This involves fulfilling supply requests and communicating availability and/or status of requests in a timely and reliable manner.
- Obtain price quotes, conduct cost analysis to support cost savings, research alternative sources, and purchase needed medical and office supplies based on medical and office supply formulary and inventory par levels, as well as special request items.
- Document and set inventory stocking levels; process inventory purchases; perform cycle counts and physical inventory audits; maintain adequate stock to meet JHS user needs.
- Work with vendors to resolve problems such as billing inconsistencies, quantity or product errors, and contract interpretation.
- Assign work to front line staff and monitor completion related to daily front line supply tasks.
- Perform periodic quality assurance reviews on front line staff supply tasks.
- Oversee training of new supply employees on supply functions and processes.
- Work with Medical Providers and nursing staff to address medical supply needs of high needs/infirmary level care patients.
- Work with JHS Operations Managers to ensure critical PPE inventory is maintained at both facilities as part of JHS COVID response.
- Conduct routine inventory needs assessments related to office furniture such as chairs, desks, etc. and make recommendations to Operations Managers for replacements or repairs as necessary.
- Work with front line supply staff to ensure tidiness of correctional facilities in JHS workspaces as related to surplus, removal, or repurposing of broken or unneeded supplies and equipment. Identify and recommend strategies for surplus, salvage, or other outcome of obsolete inventory items.
- Work with the HIMS admin support staff to address other practice needs as related to supplies or equipment (for example, servicing of copy machines, etc.)
- Participate in (and/or lead) team meetings, continuous improvement work, and projects relating to improvement of the supply system in the JHS health care delivery system.
- Prepare reports and assist in developing work unit goals, objectives, and projections.
- Work with JHS Finance Administrator staff to ensure contracts for equipment repair services (and other needed contracts) are up to date.
- Complete front line supply duties (receiving of deliveries, stocking supply shelves, restocking medical service areas, etc.) when necessary for back-up or relief factor when front line staff are not available to complete these tasks.
- Troubleshoot equipment problems, contacting vendors for repair services as needed.
- Ensure annual maintenance of designated medical equipment is completed.
- Conduct monthly environmental inspections of triage rooms, clinic exam rooms, etc. at the two facilities and create monthly reports related to these inspections.
- Monitor the use, storage, and handling of hazardous materials such as soiled lab coats, filled biohazard bags, etc.
- Partner with the Department of Adult and Juvenile Detention to ensure repair persons or vendors have appropriate escort throughout the facility.
- Partner with the Facilities Maintenance Division to ensure appropriate repair work orders as necessary.
- Provide backup to the other supply lead when necessary.
