Language Access Coordinator
- Summary
This position supports the work performed by the COVID Language Access Team within the Department of Public Health. The Language Access Coordinator position manages and processes requests for translation, interpretation, and reviews COVID related documents. These requests come through various Departments and Task Forces within King County.
- Job Duties
- Use personal lived experience, health literacy skills, and an equity framework to review COVID-19 related documents for reading level, clarity, and cultural appropriateness to send out for community translation and review.
- Collaborate with a diverse staff of content creators and requestors on changes to documents using track changes and other Microsoft editing tools.
- Maintain and track assigned projects using the team tracking system. Upload and maintain files completed and share files in SharePoint/Teams.
- Assure accurate and timely return of documents from translators and reviewers, verify documents are complete, and return to Requestors.
- Facilitate translation and interpretation requests between King County Staff and diverse Community vendor pool
- Work collaboratively with other team members to troubleshoot, share challenges and successes for a unified approach to the work.
- Serve as Language Access ambassador to King County staff regarding their language access needs.
- Co-create and maintain program documents, databases and prepare and generate reports.
- Share management responsibility of the team inbox for project review and assignment.
- Experience, Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills
- Understanding health literacy best practices
- Clear written communicator, especially over email
- An independent thinker, who can also work in collaboration with others
- Ability to pay attention to detail and ensure accuracy of work products
- Proficient in Microsoft Suite, SharePoint and Adobe PDF
- Proficient in English grammar, spelling, and proof reading
- Be a champion of anti-racist work, cultural awareness, and conflict management
- At least one year of project management experience, ideally in language access work
- Individuals that have a strong understanding of and experience collaborating with diverse, multi-cultural and multi-generational communities in King County
- Bilingual/biliterate/served as a translator or interpreter

Covid-19 Vaccination Requirement

Who May Apply: This position is open to current King County Employees as a Special Duty and the general public as a Term Limited Position. End date is 06/30/2023 with potential for a longer assignment based on funding.
Work Location: Telecommuting with occasional in-person work/meetings at the Chinook Building located at 410 5th Avenue, Seattle, WA 98104.
Work Schedule: This position works 40 hours per week. The normal work week is flexible Monday through Friday, with some possible weekends. This position is subject to the Fair Labor Standards Act and is overtime eligible.
