Lead Transit Equipment Painter:
The responsibilities of this classification include assigning and coordinating the work of vehicle maintenance equipment painters and performing the full range of responsibilities identified in the Transit Lead Equipment Painter classification.
Who may apply and position information:
We are accepting applications from current career service Transit Equipment Painters at Metro Transit who have completed two years of current, full-time service at Metro in the Transit Equipment Painter classification as of the closing date of this announcement.
This recruitment will be used to fill one (1) career service Lead Transit Equipment Painter vacancy. In addition, this selection process may be used to generate an eligibility pool for future Career Service and Special Duty Assignment (SDA) vacancies that may occur. The eligibility pool would be valid for twelve months and may be used or extended at the discretion of the hiring authority.- Job Duties

In addition to performing the full range of responsibilities of the Transit Equipment Painter classification, an incumbent in this classification performs the following:
- Coordinate the work of and provide technical assist to equipment painters performing skilled sign and decal fabrication as well as painting and refinishing work in the maintenance and repair of coach, automotive and heavy-duty equipment.
- Assign work in accordance with work orders, maintenance schedules and operating requirements; control and monitor workflow.
- Respond to questions and provide advice on techniques and approaches.
- Provide feedback to higher-level staff on employee and teamwork performance as well as any behavioral and attendance issues.
- Inspect completed work assignments to ensure work has been completed in a quality manner and equipment is in proper working order.
- Train new and current personnel in proper surface preparation and techniques of applying automotive and industrial paints; provide training for design, fabrication and installation of signs and decals.
- Ensure all shop equipment is maintained appropriately and is in proper operating condition.
- Maintain inventory of materials and supplies; arrange for delivery and transportation of items ordered.
- Advise equipment painters when their work is deficient or are in violation of established regulations and procedures; recommend corrective actions to higher-level staff when required.
- Maintain shop records including work orders, completed repairs and materials used; enter and extract data in automated vehicle maintenance systems.
- Provide varied forms of customer service and resolve customer complaints; coordinates with other transit bases and departments as required.

Minimum Qualifications
- Per the ATU 587 CBA: Two full years of journey level experience at Metro Transit as an Equipment Painter classification as of the closing date of this posting.
- A valid Washington State driver's license is required, with acceptable driving record.
- Ability to demonstrate predictable, reliable, and timely attendance.
- Demonstrated ability to drive in a safe and responsible manner.
- Ability to direct, train and assist employees in their assigned tasks; ability and willingness to provide clear, corrective feedback to them.
- Ability to inspect quality of work and ensure work is completed in a timely manner.
- Ability to perform basic operations in Microsoft Outlook, Word and Excel.

- Excellent communication skills.
- Lead or supervisory experience is desired.
- Must pass a post-offer, pre-employment physical exam.
- Willingness and availability to work varying shifts on weekdays, nights, weekends and holidays.

Selection Process: There are 4 (four) parts to the selection process:
Part 1: A record review will be completed only on applicants who demonstrate their competitiveness by meeting the minimum qualifications as described above. The record review will be conducted based upon the work record calculations criteria described in this announcement. If you pass the record review, you will proceed to the next part of the recruitment process. Points accrued in the review will not be carried over and added to points received on the written exam (i.e. points will not be added or subtracted from the written exam results based upon the work record).
Upon completion of a record review, the hiring authority will issue notification slips for candidates to review the results of the work record evaluation. Candidates will be asked to sign their work record calculations worksheet in the presence of the hiring authority, who will also sign it. if there are discrepancies or disagreements about the work record evaluation, they must be resolved prior to the hiring authority submitting the record review form to Transit Human Resources.
RECORD REVIEW CRITERIA:- All calculations are based on the fact that the applicant is a current, full-time journey-level Transit Vehicle Maintenance employee within the classification of Vehicle Maintenance Equipment Painter.
- Work record calculations will be based on the employee's most recent twenty-four (24) months of full-time work history at King County Metro.
- Employees must have worked at least 1,200 hours in the last twelve months. For employees that may have worked less than 1,200 hours per year due to FMLA protected leave, records will be reviewed beyond twenty-four (24) months for the equivalent amount of leave time.
- Employees with an annual performance appraisal rating in the previous twenty-four (24) months lower than 3.00 (satisfactory) will not be considered for this recruitment.
- Applicants will be screened out of the selection process if the record review totals 15 or more points.
- Points will be assigned within each of the following work record categories:
- Unexcused Absences = 8 points each (previous 12 months)
- Late Occurrences = 3 points each (previous 180 days)
- Major Infractions = 15 points (previous 24 months)
- Minor infractions = 5 points (previous 12 months)
- Suspension or decision making leave = 10 points (previous 24 months)
Part 3: The candidates that pass the written exam will be invited to participate in a panel interview. Candidates will not be allowed to bring notes or other written materials into or out of the interview. A final round interview with the section manager may also be conducted at Transit management's discretion.
Part 4: Transit management will make the final selection of candidate(s) to be hired and/or placed on an eligibility pool based on the outcome of the recruitment process. If an eligibility pool is created it will remain in effect for twelve months, or until exhausted, at the discretion of the hiring authority. Final offers of employment are contingent upon satisfactory reference checks and an acceptable driving record. Transit Human Resources will request all driving abstracts for employees who successfully pass reference checks.
Work location and schedule: Assignment may be to any one of the Vehicle Maintenance Base locations.
The Vehicle Maintenance Division operates three shifts (day, swing and graveyard) seven days a week at various locations throughout King County. Openings may occur on all shifts. Swing and graveyard shift employees receive a shift differential. Employees work a 40 hour per week schedule with two consecutive days off, but not necessarily Saturday and Sunday. Work schedules and locations are based on a seniority system, which occurs three times a year. Graveyard and/or swing shift vacancies will be the most likely openings. This position is non-exempt from the provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act, and is overtime eligible.
