This recruitment will be used to fill three current vacancies and may be used to create an eligibility list of qualified candidates for future vacancies and Special Duty Assignments valid for twelve months, or until exhausted, at the discretion of the hiring authority.The responsibilities of the Lead Transit Parts Specialist include assigning, coordinating, and inspecting the work of Transit Parts Specialists, and performing the full range of responsibilities identified in the Transit Parts Specialist classification.

As the Lead Transit Parts Specialist, in addition to performing the full range of responsibilities of the Transit Parts Specialist classification, an incumbent in this classification performs the following:
- Assign and monitor work for Transit Parts Specialists who receive, inspect, store, and issue a variety of new and rebuilt parts, material, and supplies; provide advice and assistance in the completion of their job-related tasks.
- Assist with coordinating the surplus activity between the transit operating bases and the warehouse.
- Assist in gathering and compiling data for surplus parts activity.
- Receive, inspect, store, and issue a variety of materials, parts, and supplies.
- Request stock transfer from other parts rooms for downed coaches; order special stock or supplies from outside vendors in emergency situations.
- Verify shipments to ensure billing accuracy; check incoming stock against shipping documents, bills of lading, purchase orders and delivery receipts.
- Use an automated inventory system to properly disburse parts to authorized personnel.
- Maintain accurate automated inventory records and perform physical inventories.
- Assist with training of new and existing employees in the duties of the Transit Parts Specialist position.
- Implement continuous improvement measures.
- Assist mechanics and other trade and craft employees to identify and locate needed parts.
- At the direction of a chief, contribute to the development of policies for the respective work unit.
- Provide feedback to supervisors on employee and teamwork performance, as well as any behavioral and attendance issues.
- Coordinate with Transit Purchasing Specialists to assure adequate inventories of needed parts and equipment.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Experience, Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills
Two years of current, full-time Journey Level service at Metro within the Transit Parts Specialist classification demonstrating the following:
- Knowledge of inventory control procedures and inventory management techniques and ability to teach others.
- Knowledge of basic purchasing procedures and techniques.
- Knowledge of applicable service standards, operating policies, and regulations.
- Proficiency in using Vehicle Maintenance's computer software work order system, to include data entry, extraction, parts receiving and disbursement.
- Skill in conflict management.
- Skill in facilitating creative ideas.
- Skill in training and providing technical assistance.
- Skill in detail orientation of tasks; workload planning and scheduling and tracking multiple projects, etc.
- Strong oral and written communication skills to direct and/or respond to a diverse group of individuals (e.g. employees, other base leads, internals, etc.)
- Skill in planning, assigning, balancing, and verifying work.
- Skill in handling multiple competing priorities.
- Skill in critical thinking to make independent decisions.
- Excellent customer service skills using follow through and probing while establishing and maintaining effective working relationships.
- Demonstrated planning, scheduling, and organization skills.
- Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with supervisory, subordinate, maintenance personnel and vendors.
- The ability to read and understand parts manuals and explain the information to others.
- Ability to effectively communicate both orally and in writing.
- The ability to use automated information systems and answer questions from other users.
- Ability to lead or direct team/staff.
- Demonstrated understanding of Continuous Improvement principals.
- A valid Washington State Driver License, and acceptable five-year driving record.

Application and Selection Process:
Any applicant not meeting the requirements as outlined at the beginning of this announcement will be automatically screened out of the consideration process.
All qualified applicants will be invited to complete a written testing process. Those passing the test will be invited to move forward to the interview step of the recruitment and will be invited to participate in one or more panel interviews.
All candidates passing interview will be placed on an eligibility list and will be considered for vacancies as they occur. This list is anticipated for use to fill at least three (3) immediate career service positions. The list will be valid for twelve months, or until exhausted, at the discretion of the hiring authority. Transit management will make the final selection of candidate(s) to be hired and/or placed on an eligibility list based on the outcome of the recruitment process.
All candidates receiving a conditional offer of employment in this position will need to complete a pre-employment process, including passing an employee record review.
Work Record Calculation Criteria:- Work record calculations will be based on the employee's most recent twenty-four (24) months of full-time work history at King County Metro, at the time of offer.
- Employees must have worked at least 1,200 hours in each of the last twelve (12) months. For employees that may have worked less than 1,200 hours per year due to FMLA protected leave, records will be reviewed beyond twenty-four (24) months for the equivalent amount of leave time.
- Employees with an annual performance appraisal rating in the previous twenty-four (24) months lower than 3.00 (satisfactory) will not be considered for this recruitment.
- Applicants with a record review totaling fifteen (15) or more points will not continue in the selection process.

Work schedule:Employees in this non-exempt classification work a 40-hour per week, day shift, Monday through Friday schedule. VM work schedules and locations are based on a seniority system and schedules are bid on once yearly.
Employees must be able and willing to work any shift, including any combination of days off, at any location. These positions are FLSA non-exempt and therefore eligible for overtime pay.
