Summary


The King County Prosecuting Attorney's Office is looking for highly motivated individuals to join our team as a Legal Administrative Specialist II. Legal Administrative Specialists handle a variety of legal office support tasks performed under general supervision, requiring an ability to exercise sound independent judgment.  If you seek enriching, meaningful work and a chance to serve your community while working as part of a collaborative team, this opportunity may be for you.

This is a Special Duty assignment funded by COVID-8 relief money, subject to funding approval by King County central budget office and Council. We expect that the assignment will last until June of 2023 with the possibility of an extension. The employee selected for this position will be able to return to their previous position at the end of the assignment.

Work Location: In-person/telecommuting hybrid: Maleng Regional Justice Center in Kent, WA

The PAO requires for all employees to reside in Washington State and within a reasonable distance to their primary county worksite to respond to workplace reporting requirements.     

Work Schedule:  
This position works a 40 hour work week schedule. Our core business hours are  Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. This position is eligible for King County’s generous benefits package and is covered by the provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act.  

Salary:  Range 38
(Step One) $24.71 -  (Step Ten) $31.32 Hourly*
$1,976.64 - $2,505.50 Biweekly
$51,392.64 - $65,143.10 Annually

Positions in this classification are represented by Teamsters Local No. 117.

Selection Process 

Materials will be reviewed for qualifications, and the most competitive candidates may be invited to participate in a panel interview process.

*Employees with less than 2 years of service will receive .25 per hour less than the hourly salary table due to a mandatory contribution toward the Teamsters Pension Trust that was voted by members of Teamsters Local No. 117.   
 

Job Duties

  • Receive callers by phone and in-person; take care of their needs or refer them to the appropriate person or agency.
  • Help to assist Domestic Violence victims determine eligibility for orders under RCW 26.50. 
  • Provide DVPO filing instructions and resource information 
  • Act as a liaison between your Team Members, the court, police officers, victims, and other agencies. 
  • Log calls and emails as appropriate into the Pbk database and triage que 
  • Manage, distribute and scan a large volume of US mail, emails and faxes.
  • Manage office equipment, including computer, fax, and printers.
  • Order office supplies as needed.
  • Contact law enforcement agencies to amend Proof of Service forms that are incomplete
  • E-file Protection Order documentation.
  • Help to maintain various spreadsheets re civil legal aid referrals, critical issues, as well as others
  • Maintain and update POAP – MRJC Reception Manual.
  • Actively participate in PAO equity work, attending equity trainings and discussions.
  • Provide support for the Equity and Social Justice policy and principles, work with PAO colleagues and management to identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Additional responsibilities and/or tasks may be incorporated or existing ones modified as business needs evolve.  

Experience, Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills

  • This position requires excellent customer service skills and strong computer skills. 
  • Customer service skills both in person and via telephone (discretion, patience, etiquette, professionalism).
  • Ability to exercise tact, courtesy, and good-judgment with individuals from a variety of backgrounds.  
  • Skill in responding in a positive, mature, empathetic and helpful manner to various individuals having diverse backgrounds and concerns.
  • Skill to work independently and follow through on given assignments, as well as be part of a team and interact appropriately.
  • Advance organizational skills and the ability to complete a variety of tasks in an accurate manner with frequent interruptions. 
  • Advance skill in using computers and the ability to become proficient in the use of database programs such as PbK (with training), Word, Excel, and Adobe Pro.
  • Ability to follow written and verbal directions, and to complete assigned tasks on schedule.
  • Ability to monitor and appropriately respond to multiple queues of work throughout the day.
  • Skill to work under pressure and meet deadlines with acute attention to detail.
  • Skill to express ideas and convey information effectively, orally and in writing.
  • Skill in responding quickly to telephone calls and emails.
  • Demonstrated predictable, reliable, and timely attendance.
  • Ability to learn from directions, observations, and mistakes, and apply procedures using good judgment; ability and willingness to accept supervision, coaching and feedback.
