Legal Administrative Specialist II- District Court Unit

This is a Special Duty/Term Limited Temporary assignment funded by COVID-8 relief money, subject to funding approval by King County central budget office and Council. We expect that the assignment will last until the end of 2023 with the possibility of an extension. The employee selected for this position will be able to return to their previous position at the end of the assignment.

A general wage increase of 4.5% is anticipated later in the year following ratification of the tentative agreement between King County and the Coalition of Unions.
Work Schedule: This position works a 35-hour work week schedule, normally Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. This position is eligible for King County’s generous benefits package and is covered by the provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act.
Telecommuting: This position is eligible for telecommuting except for tasks that require an on-site or in-person presence to fulfill the business needs of the position, unit, division and mission. A county issued laptop will be provided and employees must maintain a workspace with an internet connection where they can reliably perform work and remain available and responsive during scheduled work hours.

- Job Duties
This is a combination receptionist/clerical position to include:
- Receive calls by telephone and provide information to the public in accordance with PAO policy
- Work within PbK MyView/Reminders to manage daily requests; verify all documents have been received; scan and upload into PbK
- Manage closed disc electronic evidence
- Monitor and distribute faxes for DCU
- Assisting Discovery Paralegal managing discs
- Help maintain inventory and order office supplies for the District Court Unit (to include Redmond and MRJC)
- Help maintain paper for the 5th floor of KCCH
- Coordinate shredding company for 5th floor of KCCH
- Help request repair services for copy machine and printers
- Provide back-up to the Criminal Division front reception; breaks/lunches, minimum 1 day/week or as needed
- Interact with the Courts, the Clerk's office, law enforcement, defense attorneys, and the rest of the PAO
- Retrieve information from several record keeping systems: PbK, DISCIS, SCOMIS, ECR, etc.
- Provide assistance to the staff supervisor
- Assist with special projects as they arise
- Experience, Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills
- Knowledge of general office principles and procedures, particularly in the criminal justice system.
- Skills in managing each task from beginning to end and obtaining all information needed for completion.
- Skills in using computers and the ability to become proficient in the use of database programs such as PbK (with training), Word, Excel, Adobe Pro, JABS and ITS.
- Ability to communicate effectively and follow written and verbal directions.
- Establish and maintain positive and effective working relationships with the Courts, management, co-workers, attorneys, law enforcement and the general public.
- Strong organization skills; ability to prioritize and complete a variety of tasks in an accurate manner with frequent interruptions.
- Customer service skills in person and via telephone (discretion, patience, etiquette, professionalism).
- Ability to meet deadlines with attention to detail and to assume unscheduled and unexpected responsibilities.
- Ability to work independently or as part of a team, exercising initiative, and following through with work assignments.
- Demonstrated predictable, reliable, and timely attendance.
- Ability to accept feedback and supervision.
- Ability to maintain security, confidentiality, and discretion involving highly critical matters is essential at all times.
