Salary: Range 44 - $27.2471 (step one) - $34.5374 (step ten)*
Location: In person/telecommuting hybrid: Downtown Seattle Courthouse, 5th floor.
Work Schedule: Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
The person assigned this position will be expected to attend weekly General Crimes Unit (GCU) meetings and is invited to contribute to the discussion while maintaining confidentiality and discretion involving highly sensitive matters. - Job Duties
- Uploading documents into PbK, e-filing and e-service of documents.
- Redaction of discovery, audio and video; assistance with maintenance of electronic files and evidence discs.
- Creation of trial notebooks and assistance with trial exhibits.
- Assist paralegals with processing trial subpoenas and correspondence, adding/updating witness information and court dates in PbK; providing back-up courtroom assistance to the paralegals.
- Assist paralegals and DPAs with setting up defense witness interviews.
- Performing related work as needed and other projects as assigned by staff supervisor and unit chair.
- Assist in closing out cases for future Appellate procedures.
- Handle highly sensitive material that requires special care with respect to security and discretion.
- This work is often time sensitive, requiring immediate attention and expeditious handling.
- This person will work closely with law enforcement partners, first responders, WSPCL and medical personnel.
- Other responsibilities may be added or changed as business needs evolve.
- Experience, Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills
- Knowledge of criminal justice system and office practices/procedures.
- Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines with a strong attention to detail.
- Excellent communication skills, both oral and written; ability to communicate professionally and effectively with individuals, groups and in the courtroom.
- Follow written and verbal directions and complete assigned tasks on schedule.
- Ability to perform assigned job duties with frequent interruptions.
- Learn from directions, observations, and mistakes, and apply procedures using good judgment; ability and willingness to accept supervision, coaching and feedback.
- Ability to work with diverse populations.
- Skills in using computers and a variety of software such as PbK, Adobe, Word, Excel and PowerPoint; familiarity with other criminal justice programs.
- Skills to work independently and follow through on given assignments as well as be part of a team and interact appropriately with others.
- Demonstrated predictable and reliable attendance.
- This position may require moving or lifting heavy objects, such as boxes of books, papers, etc. that weigh 20-25 pounds.
- Actively participate in PAO equity work, trainings and discussions.
- Provide support for the Equity and Social Justice policy and principles, work with PAO colleagues and management to identify opportunities for improvement.
