This recruitment is INTERNAL ONLY and open to current King County, Department of Public Defense Society of Counsel Representing Accused Persons Division career service Legal Assistants who have successfully passed their initial career service probation .
The Department of Public Defense's Society of Counsel Representing Accused Persons Division (SCRAPD) is seeking interested applicants for a Special Duty Assignment as a Legal Assistant - Lead that is anticipated to last up to six-months. The Legal Assistant - Lead performs a vital role in supporting the work of the department. Legal Assistants handle an array of technical legal office support tasks performed under general supervision, requiring an ability to exercise a moderate degree of independent judgment. Duties require a clear understanding and skill in applying office guidelines, legal procedures, work methods, court rules, and applicable laws. The Legal Assistant - Lead has additional duties beyond those of the Legal Assistants.

Work Location
This position will be located at various SCRAPD offices in Seattle and Kent.
DPD employees enjoy a flexible, hybrid in-office/telecommute workplace structure, and this role should expect to work both in the office and remotely. DPD maintains physical offices in the following locations:
Work Schedule
The typical workweek is 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. This position is non-exempt from the provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act and is eligible for overtime pay with approval from the supervisor.

Job Duties
In addition to the duties for the Legal Assistant, the Legal Assistant - Lead will:
- Assist in workload planning, prioritizing, and assigning work schedules.
- Cross-train Legal Assistants.
- Serve as a backup for coverage as needed.
- Assist with Quality Assurance by running reports in Legal Files upon a supervisor request.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
In addition to the Knowledge/Skills for the Legal Assistant, the Legal Assistant - Lead will:
- Have knowledge of each practice area.
- Skill to perform and teach each piece of a Legal Assistant's job.
- Be able to coach and mentor other Legal Assistants.
Any combination of education and experience that clearly demonstrates the ability to perform the job duties of the position.
