- Summary
The King County Prosecuting Attorney's Office is looking for highly motivated individuals to join our team as a Legal Secretary. The Legal Secretary provides full clerical support for a group of Prosecuting Attorneys in the Litigation Section of the Civil Division and performs a vital. The Legal Secretary also works closely with the Paralegals to prepare lawsuits for litigation. This can include assisting with managing electronic discovery, trial preparation, and summarization of medical and billing records role in the work of the Department.About the King County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office

This position will be primarily telecommuting but will require physical presence in the office location as business needs dictate. Employees will be provided with a County issued laptop and must maintain a workspace with an internet connection where they can reliably perform work and remain available and responsive during scheduled work hours
The PAO requires for all employees to reside in Washington State and within a reasonable distance to their primary county worksite to respond to workplace reporting requirements.
Work Schedule: This position works a 35-hour work week schedule, normally Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. This position is eligible for King County’s generous benefits package and is covered by the provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act.
Salary: Range 44,
$27.2471 (Step One) to $34.5374 (Step Ten) (Hourly Rates)*
$1,907.30-$2,417.62 Biweekly
$49,589.72- $62,858.07 AnnuallyA general wage increase of 4.5% is anticipated later in the year following ratification of the tentative agreement between King County and the Coalition of Unions
Union Membership: Positions in this classification are represented by Teamsters Local No. 117.

*Employees with less than 2 years of service will receive .25 per hour less than the hourly salary table due to a mandatory contribution toward the Teamsters Pension Trust that was voted by members of the collective bargaining agreement between our office and Teamsters Local No. 117.
- Job Duties
- Preparation of correspondence and legal documents from rough draft through final copy in proper legal format;
- Receiving callers in person and by phone;
- Maintaining files (physical and electronic);
- Arranging for timely filing and service of pleadings and documents;
- Maintaining and updating the case management system;
- Scheduling motions, special settings with judges and opposing counsel;
- Preparing various court document drafts;
- Electronically filing documents with Washington State Courts and Federal Courts;
- Coordinating depositions and witness interviews;
- Maintaining attorney calendars and scheduling meetings/appointments; and
- Other work as assigned.
- Experience, Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills
- Knowledge of local, state and federal court rules and procedures required.
- Civil litigation experience required.
- Excellent spelling, grammar, proofreading and organizational skills required.
- Sharp attention to detail required.
- Keyboarding proficiency and accuracy (minimum 45 WPM).
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office products (Excel, Word, Outlook, OneNote, OneDrive), Adobe Pro, document management software, and internet search engines.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to receive and follow complex verbal and written instructions and accurately complete tasks with close attention to detail.
- Excellent time-management skills to effectively and accurately handle multiple tasks, often with short deadlines.
- Ability to use independent judgment, exercise initiative, anticipate needs, and respond appropriately.
- Demonstrated initiative and accountability in work product and service, and the ability to follow-through on issues to completion.
- Must be dependable, and willing to assist co-workers as needed.
- Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism.
- Successful experience working and functioning as a team member.
- Ability to provide excellent customer service in communications with people of diverse backgrounds, including witnesses, clients and court personnel in a tactful, diplomatic, patient and professional manner.
- Ability to prioritize workload, work under pressure with tight timelines, and adapt to changes in workload demands.
- Ability to demonstrate timely, reliable and predictable attendance.
- Must be able/willing to accept supervision and receive feedback, coaching and counseling.
- This position occasionally requires moving or lifting heavy objects, such as boxes of books, papers, etc. that weigh 20-25 pounds.
