SUMMARY:
The Medical Assistant is responsible for assisting health care providers in providing healthcare in the King County Correctional Facility Clinic. The incumbent works as a paraprofessional performing delegated patient care functions under the clinical direction of a Physician, Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner (ARNP) or Registered Nurse and under the supervision of a site manager or Personal Health Services Supervisor (PHSS). The incumbent works collaboratively within a multi-disciplinary clinic team; performs administrative support duties, conducts education and outreach activities; researches various topics and information; conducts assessments, and is expected to regularly adapt their role/tasks in order to maximize clinic efficiency and patient flow. Additional duties vary but can include family planning; immunizations; phlebotomy; medication administration; intramuscular, intradermal (including PPD's) and subcutaneous injections; data entry into tracking systems; and COVID-19 screening.
Medical Assistant (MA) –King County Correctional Facility Clinic; Term limited temporary. This Medical Assistant will work as part of a multidisciplinary team in a fast- paced clinic offering healthcare services to a socially vulnerable population. Our multidisciplinary team includes public health physicians, ARNPs, pharmacists, nurses, medical assistants, behavioral health specialists, release planners, and administrative staff.
Our health care team provides core, client-centered support to patients across all of the services embedded within our clinic. We aspire to the highest level of NCCHC accreditation.

- Assist health care providers with patient care; and coordinate efficient clinic flow by promptly rooming patients.
- Accurately perform diagnostic screenings and procedures such as; vision and hearing screening, EKG's, and record adult anthropometric measurements.
- As directed by a Physician and/or Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner, perform and process blood draws, administer medication and collect specimens.
- Provide basic health care messages and education on a variety of health topics including healthcare maintenance and prevention as well as information regarding reproductive health, emergency contraception and pregnancy options, including abortion referral.
- Monitor, stock and clean routine clinic supplies; maintain safety and cleanliness of examination/ treatment rooms and laboratory areas. This may include some bending, lifting, reaching, stooping, and moving objects weighing up to 35 pounds.
- Interview and accurately record client's medical, dietary, and social histories, anthropometric and lab results and accurately enter patient information into health information tracking systems and chronic disease registries.
- As directed by a Physician and/or Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner, schedule follow- up appointments and refer patients for specialty and/or follow-up care as needed.
- Utilize clinic practice management software to assist with scheduling, registering and checking in patients for appointments
- Attend training and respond to emergency situations within the clinic supporting health care providers and emergency personnel.
- Perform pre-visit planning activities, attend huddles
- Assist with procedures
- Administer vaccines, and single dose medications via the following routes; oral, subcutaneous, intradermal, intramuscular, intranasal.
- Perform phlebotomy
- Perform CLIA waived lab tests
- Observe and guide patient self-collected nasal swabs for COVID-19 tests; process specimens for rapid tests.
- Read COVID-19 rapid test results, record on patient line list, and enter results in the electronic health record.
Requirements:
- Must have Medical Assistant Certification (CMA) with Washington Department of Health
- Washington State Drivers' License or the ability to provide transportation to work.
- Current BLS-CPR for Healthcare Providers
- Willing to provide options counseling

WORK SCHEDULE: Currently, there is a full time Term Limited Temporary position that has an anticipated term of 18 months and will be working with vulnerable adult populations in our clinic in the King County Correctional Facility. The schedule will be Monday-Friday 6:15 am – 2:15 pm.
Additionally, there are multiple Term Limited Temporary positions that have an anticipated term of 6-18 months and will work to support the COVID-19 surveillance testing team responsible for offering and performing COVID-19 rapid testing at both Maleng Regional Justice Center and King County Correctional Facility.
WORK LOCATION: King County Correctional Facility (KCCF) in Downtown Seattle, or Maleng Regional Justice Center (MRJC) in Kent. The candidate(s) selected for the COVID-19 surveillance team may be required to work at both sites as needed to meet operational needs.
