The Solid Waste Division of King County Department of Natural Resources and Parks is looking for a Metal Fabricator (Welder) in their Operations Section who will perform metal fabricator work. This position provides maintenance service support to the division’s transfer stations, transportation and landfills. Primary duties relate to welding and fabricating materials for repairs or building new items. This is your dream job!

Competitive Wages:
- A starting wage of $32.17/hour (Step 2 of range 49) with a top rate of $38.89/hour (step 10). (These are 2021 rates and may go up after the new labor contract is approved). You can reach the top step within 3.5 years or sooner
- You will start at $ 35.37/hour (Step 6) and advance to $38.89/hour after completing probation (Step 10) if: (1) you successfully completed State Apprenticeship program in the craft hired, or who can supply documentation of a minimum of five thousand two hundred (5200) hours of journey level work performance years documented experience in the field.
- You can also receive a premium of up to $2.17/hour for your AWS or WABO Certifications.
- Shift premiums that begin at 10% (added to your base rate.)

EXAMPLE OF JOB DUTIES:
- Implement repairs on Solid Waste facilities and equipment to include Transfer Stations, bulldozers, compactors, scrapers and related equipment.
- Fabricate parts to replace or improve Solid Waste structures or equipment.
- Provide support services to other job classifications, primarily Heavy-Duty Mechanics.
- Interpret blueprints, sketches and other instructions.
- Monitor supplies and re-order as necessary.
- Perform disassembly and assembly of equipment for access to weld areas.
- Design special jigs and fixtures.
- Design, lay out, assemble and weld complex repairs and specialized modifications.
- Repair defective or damaged metal parts. Work with light, heavy-gauge and hardened metals.
- Maintaining information to a windows based computer program.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
OUR IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL HAVE:
- Journey level experience in metal fabrication/welding supporting heavy duty equipment fleet, or equivalent level experience.
- Three (3) years of experience in using CCG Faster or other computerized maintenance scheduling system.
- Skill in properties of ferrous and non-ferrous metals.
- Journey-level skills in MIG, TIG, SMAW, WELDING, CARBON ARC and OXY-ACETYLENE cutting.
- Preheat and clean metals. Lay out, cut and fit materials for welding.
- Design, lay out, assemble and weld complex structural additions, repairs and specialized modifications to road and building structures, including bridge expansion joint systems.
- Repair defective or damaged metal parts. Work with light, heavy-gauge and hardened metals.
- Set up and operate a variety of metal fabricating equipment.
- Design special jigs and fixtures.
- Skill in working from blueprints, sketches and oral and written directions to lay out and cut metals.
- Skill in repairing heavy equipment related to hard surfacing and various repairs, including buckets, bowls, gates, booms and trucks.
- Demonstrated knowledge with using computer and Microsoft Suite applications (i.e. Outlook, Word, Excel, etc.).
- Working knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions.
- Effective business communications (oral and written).
- Demonstrated skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with others.
- Ability to work in a team environment.
- Excellent problem solving skills.
- Strong customer service skills.
- Possession of a valid Washington State Driver's License.
- Washington State Journeyman Welder certification.
- Must pass a skills test.
- Successful candidate will be required to pass a physical examination.

WORK LOCATION: Primary work location is Cedar Hills Regional Landfill located at 16645 228th Ave SE, Maple Valley, WA 98038.
WORK SCHEDULE: This position works a 40-hour workweek. Schedules are dayshift, swing shift, Monday-Friday 6:00 a.m.- 2:30 p.m. or 4/10 Wed.-Sat or Sun.-Wed. 6:00 a.m. 4:30 p.m. This position is non-exempt from the Fair Labor Standards Act and is overtime eligible with Supervisor approval.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/ENVIRONMENT:
The position requires physical labor including, but not limited to, standing, balancing, bending neck, kneeling, squatting, reaching, pushing and pulling. The ability to lift, carry, move, or handle up to 50 pounds. The candidate must have the ability to work including, but not limited to, inside/outside in heat/cold, wet/humid, inclement weather while on uneven slopes, surfaces, grades and terrain and other adverse conditions such as fumes, toxic chemicals, odor, noise, dust and moving machinery.
