- King County Metro has an exciting opportunity for our next Assistant General Manager of Finance & Administration. You will provide consistent and cross-functional enterprise-wide support services to advance achievement of Metro’s strategies and targets through evidence-based management and decisional resources, alignment of technology with transit services delivery, and achievement of State of Good Repair compliance.You will oversee approximately 70 staff and report directly to Metro’s General Manager. Finance & Administration supports other Metro divisions and department leadership. The division is comprised of five sections:
- Administrative Services provides administrative support for the department, Finance & Administration Division, Equity & Inclusion Office, Strategic Communications & Engagement, the General Manager, and the Deputy General Manager.
- Asset Management assesses and prioritizes department needs to maintain State of Good Repair of Metro assets.
- Enterprise Financial Services manages and supports the financial, accounting, business, and modeling functions of the department, including integration of related divisional responsibilities. This section will also support department operations with a centralized Contracting and Grants team.
- Strategy & Analytics aligns department policies, business planning, financial and economic strategies, and business intelligence analytics, supporting their use in operational and leadership decision-making.
- Transit Technology Operations supports and manages the technology systems specific to the Metro Transit Department, while managing both internal customer and KCIT service relationships.

Applying equity and social justice principles is a daily responsibility and a foundational expectation for all King County employees. In this role, you will apply equity and social justice principles that exemplify shared values, behaviors, and practices to all aspects of the work. As the Assistant General Manager, you will:
- Provide strategic direction to the Finance & Administration Division and align the work performed with the vision and strategic goals of the Metro Transit Department.
- Manage agency performance and business intelligence, including performance and public reporting, and cross-agency director accountability.
- Develop and oversee the division budget; determine and allocate resources.
- Work with a variety of stakeholders including internal Metro staff, King County Executive leadership and staff, City of Seattle, elected officials, law enforcement, other governmental agencies, transit customers, and the broader community to maintain current high standards of transportation.
- Build teams and foster a positive environment in diverse work environments while creating strong morale, instilling vision and purpose, and fostering open dialogue within the Division. Cultivate employee engagement and create developmental opportunities for all employees.
- Develop relationships and treat all employees and customers equitably, with respect and dignity, as well as solve problems for the good of all.
- Ensure that Metro has the internal capacity to provide world-class transportation service while advancing the health and safety of our workforce, the strength and sustainability of our environment, and equity and social justice in our workplace and in the communities we serve.

- Experience, Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills
- High level management experience:
- Ten years of progressively responsible work experience and/or any combination of education and experience that clearly demonstrates the ability to perform the job duties of the position.
- A bachelor's degree in finance, business, or a closely related field.
- Any combination of experience/education/training that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the work.
- People leadership experience, which demonstrates:
- Experience with building effective teams in diverse work environments while creating strong morale, instilling vision and purpose, and fostering open dialogue.
- Interest in and ability to develop and lead direct reports, furthering people's career goals, providing challenging and stretching tasks and assignments, and effectively developing all levels of staff.
- Knowledge of how to build relationships and treat all employees and customers equitably, with respect and dignity, as well as solve problems for the good of all.
- Experience working with labor and the ability to develop and nurture strong, productive relationships with union leadership, respecting established processes, and fostering an environment of mutual respect.
- An ability to communicate well, in both oral and written communications.
- Finance & Administration industry leadership through:
- Deep subject matter knowledge in operational decision making, budget, internal policy and other processes.
- Knowledge about how organizations work and how to get things done both through formal channels and informal networks.
- Ability to make complex decisions and to deal with concepts and complexity comfortably, in a capable and agile manner.
- Ability to see clearly ahead, anticipate future consequences, effectively set priorities, and have broad knowledge, perspective, and the ability to articulate possibilities and spend time on what is important.

- Prior King County Metro experience is highly desired.
- Valid State Driver's License or alternate ability to travel to locations for which public transportation is not regularly available.

Work Schedule
This position works a base workweek of 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday. This position is exempt from the provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act and is not over-time eligible. Management will determine the schedule of the successful candidates.
Work Location
The primary location of this position is in the King Street Center (201 S. Jackson St., Seattle, WA)
Teleworking Requirement
The work associated with this position will be performed predominantly by teleworking complemented with onsite work and meetings as needed. Employees will have access to shared workspaces at various King County facilities.) Employees must reside in Washington state and within a reasonable distance to their King County worksite to respond to workplace reporting requirements.
Employees will be provided with a County issued laptop and must maintain a workspace with an internet connection (access may be supplemented in some situations) where they can reliably perform work and remain available and responsive during scheduled work hours. Please note that when an employee conducts work that is likely to bring them in contact with another individual, safety precautions are required, including the wearing of masks in some situations.
