Work involves maintaining and repairing the full range of varied equipment utilized in a transit base fleet maintenance and repair facility. Work includes establishing and maintaining a preventive maintenance schedule; overhauling and repairing the full range of equipment utilized; minimizing equipment downtimes to optimize service availability; assisting with developing specifications and purchasing new equipment; and coordinating and reviewing the work performed by related outside contractors. Work requires incumbents to learn and transfer new and expanded knowledge and skills as equipment and components evolve and are improved, modified, and updated. Work is performed under the general supervision of a higher-level vehicle maintenance supervisor.
The Transit Facilities Division operates three shifts (day, swing, and graveyard) seven days a week at various locations throughout King County. Openings may occur on all shifts. Swing and graveyard shift employees receive a shift differential. Employees work a 40 hour per week schedule with two consecutive days off, but not necessarily Saturday and Sunday. Work schedules and locations are based on a seniority system, which occurs two times a year. Candidates must be available to work any shift.
This recruitment will be used to fill one career service position and may be used to generate an eligibility list for upcoming vacancies in career service, term-limited temporary assignments, and SDA.

- Perform corrective maintenance, major equipment overhauls, and routine skilled mechanical maintenance as determined by management or a manufacturer's established preventive maintenance program schedule on such items as automatic bus washers, hydraulic and electro-hydraulic bus hoists, stationary air compressors (Pistons and Screw), automatic doors, steam cleaners, fuel receiving, storage and pumping systems, and various hydraulic/non-hydraulic shop equipment.
- Operate a lathe, drill press, and other types of machine shop equipment: design and fabricate parts.
- Install, remove, relocate, align, and anchor various types of equipment; disconnect and connect air, oil, water, and electrical systems at the primary wall or floor connection.
- Some functions may include being the primary contact person for project work that is contracted out, and coordinate all base maintenance work provided by outside crafts such as electrical, plumbing, and heating.
- Assist with development of specifications and purchase of equipment and materials as requested.
- Track and maintain maintenance records on a personal computer and extract data for a computer database. Current computer programs used are EAM, Oracle, Microsoft Excel, Outlook, and Word.

We are looking for candidates who have:
- Journey status as a Millwright, or a Maintenance Machinist, or a minimum of two years of related experience in a skilled craft that requires knowledge of specialized equipment used in the millwright's craft.
- Ability to troubleshoot problems with equipment/machinery.
- Ability to work independently and make maintenance and repair priority decisions.
- Ability to read and write and to understand oral and written instructions.
- Ability to work effectively in a work environment that values diversity and employee participation.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:
Trade school education in the use of specialized machinist equipment and welding techniques.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Work requires the ability to meet peak and prolonged physical effort on a regular basis. The Millwright performs heavy work involving a wide range of physical activities associated with inspection, repair and overhaul of equipment and machinery weighing up to 50 pounds and occasionally lifting heavier objects.- Supplemental Information
Vacancy Information:
This recruitment will be used to fill current career service positions within the Facilities section. In addition, this selection process may be used to generate an eligibility List for future career service, special duty (acting) and TLT {Term Limited Temporary) positions that may occur in this classification within the Transit Division. The eligibility pool would be valid for one year upon creation at the discretion of the hiring authority. WORKING ENVIRONMENT: Work requires the ability to work inside, outside, and in confined spaces. When working inside, there is exposure to high noise level; oil, grease, natural gas, diesel, and other chemical fumes; and mechanical and electrical hazards typical of a vehicle repair facility.
Work Schedule:
The position's base work schedule is 40 hours per week, day shift; alternative work schedules may be considered (four 10 hour day shifts) as well. This position is non-exempt from the provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act, and is overtime eligible with prior supervisory approval. It is possible that in the future a swing or graveyard shift may be added, employees must therefore be available and willing to work one of three shifts (day, swing and graveyard), via the seniority pick system. Shift picks occur twice a year.
Employees are required to work overtime/call-outs for emergencies as necessary. In addition, Transit Radio and Communication Systems Specialist must be willing and able to respond to emergency repair calls during non-working hours as needed. Management reserves the right to assign any shift in order to meet the needs of the work unit.

Selection Process:
The most competitive candidates will be invited to participate in a panel interview. Those who interview successfully may be placed on an eligibility list for placement into vacancies as they occur.
