Modern Workplace Manager

King County Department of Information Technology (KCIT) is seeking to hire a Modern Workplace Manager. The Modern Workplace Manager will be responsible for managing a team of technical staff that are responsible for supporting King County’s Messaging and Collaboration infrastructure. The manager will be responsible for the front-line management of the engineering teams that administer King County’s Office 365 Platform, Exchange, Exchange Online, SharePoint Online, OneDrive, Teams, Planner, Power BI and other Office 365 applications.
The manager will serve as Product Owner for the Agile team, provide tactical strategy and direction, act as an escalation facilitator, operational project lead, and create opportunities for service enhancements and process improvements for the team. The manager will motivate and lead team members by providing guidance and technical assistance to staff in the performance of their job duties, and work with business customers, senior leadership, and cross departmental teams to deliver a reliable and high-quality service to our customers. This position will serve as the escalation point for troubleshooting and resolution of problems occurring within the group and with our service.

Teleworking Requirement
The work associated with this position will be performed through a combination of teleworking complemented with onsite work and meetings as needed. Employees will have access to shared workspaces at various King County facilities. Employees must reside in Washington state and within a reasonable distance to their King County worksite to respond to workplace reporting requirements.
Employees will be provided with a County issued laptop and must maintain a workspace with an internet connection (access may be supplemented in some situations) where they can reliably perform work and remain available and responsive during scheduled work hours. Please note that when an employee conducts work that is likely to bring them in contact with another individual, safety precautions are required, including the wearing of masks in some situations. King County is doing its part to reduce the spread of COVID-19 and remains committed to reducing our carbon footprint.

Work Schedule
The normal workweek for this position is Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Alternative work schedules may be considered. This position is not eligible for overtime pay. This position participates in After Hours Support Rotation.

- Managing technical staff in assigned functions.
- Serves as the Product Owner for Modern Workplace Agile Team.
- May be asked to serve as a backup for other Agile roles.
- Providing staff support including: Mentoring/Coaching, Performance Monitoring, Performance Appraisals, Performance Improvement Plans, and Training and Development plans.
- Assign and monitor work assignments and ticket management queues.
- Acts as escalation point where technical issues can be escalated to troubleshoot and solve problems occurring within the group and the service.
- Ensure projects and activities are delivered on schedule and adhere to established standards.
- Provide guidance and assistance to staff in the performance of their duties.
- Help Manage Customer expectations.
- Experience, Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills
- 5+ years knowledge of Office 365, Exchange, Exchange Online, SharePoint, OneDrive, Teams, Planner, Power BI and other Office 365 applications.
- Bachelor’s degree in information technology, business administration, computer science or related field and 5+ years of relevant technical or business work experience, or any combination of relevant experience/education/training that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the work.
- 5+ years expert knowledge of Messaging technologies and additional diverse technical experience.
- Experience supervising/leading technical staff setting performance expectations, developing performance measures, conducting performance evaluation, providing coaching and feedback, giving performance appraisals and administering discipline.
- The demonstrated ability to successfully direct the work of IT professionals, develop staff and invite input from each member of the staff, thus sharing ownership and visibility.
- Experience in developing, monitoring/supervising the implementation of enterprise messaging & collaboration systems.
- Skilled in problem solving and analysis.
- Skilled at handling multiple competing priorities and resolving road blocks.
- Skilled at timely, consistent, performance management to align objectives with strategic and operational goals.
- Demonstrate proactive customer service, understanding their needs and issues and using the information for improvements, establishing and maintaining effective relationships, ultimately gaining their trust and respect.
- Technical certifications related to Information Technology, SAFe, Scrum, Lean or other process improvement methodologies preferred.
- IT Operations experience.
- Experience with ITIL.
- Ability to present information to executive management.
- Ability to communicate at all levels of the business.
- Strong leadership skills and business acumen within a large organization.
