KCDC is the largest and most technologically advanced Court of Limited Jurisdiction in the State of Washington. It currently processes approximately 200,000 matters per year with 25 elected judges and roughly 260 employees at 8 courthouse locations. The Court is a leader in many areas involving public safety and access to justice, including the use of problem-solving courts, jail-alternative programs, technology- and judge-managed probation services. Twelve cities contract with King County for court services provided by KCDC.Position SummaryKing County District Court is seeking applicants for a current opening as a Court Manager for the Kent, WA (Maleng Regional Justice Center, “MRJC”) Courthouse. The Court Manager for KCDC is a strong, action-oriented leader with excellent people skills who is comfortable around all levels of management, Judges and attorneys. The incumbent is responsible for day-to-day management of all non-judicial operations at the MRJC. This includes maintaining the master calendar, managing Pro Tem Judges, working with outside stakeholders, performing data analysis and providing metrics to KCDC administration. Work is performed at a professional level with the expectation of independent judgment and decision making. The MRJC is staffed by a Court Manager, 2 Court Coordinators and 22 Court Clerks who support 4 Judges. - Job Duties
- Responsible for supervision of Court Coordinators and Court Clerks including hiring, development, engagement, workload distribution, performance management and conflict resolution.
- Maintain effective working relationships with Judges, staff, criminal justice agencies, other county agencies and the public.
- Assist with the development of new projects and serve on committees as required.
- Handle complex issues, questions, and sensitive and confidential matters.
- Assist in the formulation and implementation of court policies, rules, guidelines and procedures.
- Maintain current knowledge of the process and procedures for: passports, bankruptcies, name changes, vehicle impounds, false alarm hearings, zoning ordinances, witness management, Master Calendar, Mental Health Court, Domestic Violence Court, warrants, search warrants, felony and jail calendars, and inquests.
- Experience, Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills
- Knowledge of policies, procedures and laws pertaining to the operation of the King County District Court.
- Minimum of five years of progressively responsible management experience, including planning, delegating and coordinating work.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relations with colleagues at all levels of the organization, union officials, as well as individuals in other organizations, departments, agencies, and the public.
- Bachelor's degree in a related field of study including but not limited to public administration, court administration, business administration or criminal justice, or an equivalent combination of education and demonstrated experience which provides the knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the responsibilities of the job.
- Considerable knowledge of principles of administration, planning, supervision and organization.
- Ability to build and sustain inclusive and equitable teams through employee engagement, performance management and development in a dynamic work environment.
- Ability to collaborate on and implement new cost savings and efficiencies that are aligned with the Court's and King County's strategic plan, mission and vision.
- Ability to remain calm under pressure and resolve conflict at the lowest level in stressful situations.
- Ability to identify and plan for operational challenges in relation to other courts and from other government, private, or non-profit entities.
- Demonstrated ability to clearly express ideas and information orally and in writing.
- Knowledge and ability to manage in a union environment.

- Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, talk or hear, and use hands to finger, handle, or feel. The vision abilities required to perform this position include close vision.
- Working Conditions: Work is typically performed in an office environment with a moderate amount of noise (computers, printers, light traffic). This role routinely uses standard office equipment.
- Work schedule: Regular, working a 40-hour workweek, with occasional hours beyond the standard workday to meet deadlines.
- Work location: Kent, Washington – Maleng Regional Justice Center, 401 4th Ave N, Kent, WA 98032. NOTE: Court Managers may be assigned to work at any District Court location which include: Shoreline, Seattle, Redmond, Issaquah, Bellevue, Burien, Auburn or Kent (MRJC).
