The Nutrition Consultant II will provide technical assistance and nutrition consultation for several programs within Public Health - Seattle & King County's Community Health Services Division. These programs include, but are not limited to: Women, Infants, and Children Program (WIC), Breastfeeding Peer Counseling, First Steps Maternity Support Services and Infant Case Management (MSS/ICM), Children with Special Health Care Need (CSHCN) and Medical Nutrition Therapy (MNT).
The successful candidate will exhibit excellent customer service skills and have the ability to develop and maintain positive relationships with our staff and clients. The ideal candidate will demonstrate initiative, flexibility, compassion, and positive team skills. Interviews for this position are slated to take place March 16, 2020.

Who May Apply: This Term Limited Temporary (TLT) / Special Duty (SD) recruitment is open to all qualified candidates. To be considered for the Special Duty assignment, you must be an internal Career Service employee who has successfully passed probation. This position is slated to last through December 31, 2020.
Work Location: Based in the Chinook building, 401 Fifth Avenue, suite 1000 in Downtown Seattle with travel to various locations throughout King County.

- Provides staff, management, and program coordinators at contracted community agencies with technical assistance and nutrition consultation for WIC, Breastfeeding Peer Counseling, MNT, First Steps programs, and Children with Special Healthcare Needs
- Technical assistance includes assessment, interpretation of policies, standards of nutrition care, documentation systems, funding resources and budgets, quality improvement and compliance, and working with clinic supervisors and coordinators to problem-solve operational issues
- Providing technical assistance in the development and use of Cascades, our new electronic health record system for the WIC Program
- Participating on workgroups designing our new site and service delivery models.
Serves as a Nutrition Consultant for Women's, Infant's and Children's Program (WIC):- Works as part of the WIC team as well as with coordinators at Public Health and contracted sites
- Interprets and incorporates current scientific information regarding food and nutrition, diet in health promotion and disease prevention, and medical nutrition therapy
- Assesses community nutrition, breastfeeding, and food security practices, determining current needs in target populations, and coordinates collaborative responses
- Assures nutrition standards to support quality practice for Registered Dietitians in WIC, First Steps and Medical Nutrition Therapy (MNT) services
- Participates in outreach for nutrition programs, acts as liaison with food access and subsidy programs
- Facilitates the use and adaptation of culturally appropriate nutrition education services and materials for client groups
Works as Nutrition Consultant for WIC and First Step Breastfeeding projects.- Works closely with providing oversight of breastfeeding trainings and activities for WIC and First Steps staff
- Assists in the monitoring of WIC breastfeeding infrastructure and planning
Management- Works with supervisors and coordinators to hire staff, develop training plans, review work, and ensure competencies are completed for newly hired staff in nutrition service programs
- Participates in development, revision, and evaluation of electronic charting and documentation systems for nutrition program services
Training- Plans, arranges, conducts, and evaluates in-service training related to WIC, Breastfeeding, WIC group education, MNT, and First Steps nutrition services for Department and contracted agency staff
- Coordinates site nutrition education action plans and submission of annual WIC Nutrition Education Plan to Washington State Department of Health; Represents PHSKC on statewide work groups, as requested
- Understands WIC and First Steps integrated programs and appointment scheduling at Public Health centers
- Experience, Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills
- Current Registered Dietitian (RD) registered with the Commission on Dietetic Registration
- Must be a Washington State Certified Dietitian (CD) or obtain within 60 days of hire
- Must have CPR / BLS certification at time of hire
- Candidate must be able to pass through a credentialing process to prove status as a Registered and Certified Dietitian
- Ability to provide technical assistance and nutrition consultation to supervisors and management teams for WIC, Breastfeeding, MNT, and First Steps programs
- Experience using electronic medical records (examples include CIMS, EPIC and Cascades).
- Experience facilitating collaborative projects, including working effectively with diverse contractors, co-workers and community partners, and to handle difficult situations or interpersonal relationships with discretion and diplomacy
- Previous experience working with managers and staff regarding competencies and personnel issues; conduct nutrition program in-service trainings and group presentations to staff
- Experience providing and adapting nutrition education for multi-lingual, multi-cultural audiences, and coordinate and facilitate development of annual agency WIC nutrition education plan
- Exhibits excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to work well on a team and autonomously
- Washington State Driver's License or the ability to travel in a timely manner to multiple work locations with limited or no public transportation
Desired Skills:- Master's of Science or Master's of Public Health in Nutrition
- Established skills in quality improvement processes in a large Public Health organization
- Demonstrated advanced leadership, group process, and group facilitation skills
- Previous experience coordinating breastfeeding promotion and support activities
- Experience with program monitors and audits
- Experience developing and modifying electronic charting and documentation systems for nutrition services
- Advanced Excel skills

- Public Health relies on office automation (Microsoft Office) and web-based programs and tools; therefore, candidates must be computer proficient to perform functions associated with on-going work.
