The Office of Law Enforcement Oversight (OLEO) is recruiting a Community Engagement Manager that will lead its policy education and public engagement efforts as well as manage the Community Advisory Committee for Law Enforcement Oversight (CACLEO).
OLEO is dedicated to improving the lives of King County residents through its independent oversight of the King County Sheriff's Office. The ideal candidate will have a passion for effective community relationship building and understanding of police accountability. This position supervises and gives direction to the Community Engagement Specialist. Experience in grassroots advocacy, volunteer coordination, and/or community organizing; knowledge of issues related to police practices and accountability; excellent written and verbal communication skills; and experience in website and social media content creation and management are highly desired.
This position requires at least five years of professional experience in community engagement or a closely related field, which may include: administering community-based programs; coordinating volunteers; creating community outreach and education plans; working with marginalized communities; and leading community-based organizations.

This position is a salaried, at-will, overtime-exempt classification that is not eligible for the county Career Service system. The standard workweek is 35 hours. Non-traditional work hours and travel throughout King County may occasionally be required.

Job Duties

Successful candidates for this position will be able to clearly demonstrate skill and ability to:
- Provide strategic leadership for community engagement projects aimed at improving and increasing dialogue related to policing and police oversight. Utilize CACLEO members and coordinate with OLEO staff for such purposes.
- Lead and support the members of CACLEO to ensure that the committee is fully constituted, well-run, productive, and effective.
- Develop and edit written and other communications on behalf of OLEO and CACLEO for dissemination to diverse stakeholders.
- Develop systems to monitor and measure results of community engagement efforts and evaluate success in meeting OLEO's goals and mandate.
- Display knowledge of equity and social justice principles and experience putting those principles into practice.
