King County Emergency Medical Services / Medic One are seeking 1-3 Paramedics who have graduated the University of Washington Harborview Medical Center Paramedic Training Program interested in becoming paramedics with King County Medic One. This is a lateral paramedic hire. When King County Medic One hires paramedics that have already obtained their University of Washington Harborview Paramedic Training Program certification prior to hire, they shall be placed at a wage step and furlough accrual rate based on their Harborview Certification date not to exceed 12 years.

Job Duties
- Respond to predetermined types of emergencies requiring paramedic services, including structure fires and hazardous materials (HazMat) incidents, mass casualty incidents (MCI) and weapons of mass destruction (WMD) events.
- Fill the positions of medical group supervisor, triage, treatment or transportation officer at a Multiple Casualty Incident.
- Provide appropriate ALS care to patients in unusual environments such as in low-angle and vehicle extrication rescue.
- Determine and provide, within the context of patient care guidelines and physician oversight, the most appropriate treatment for patients out of the hospital, including appropriate mode of patient transport and destination.
- Communicate with patient and/or family regarding medical condition. Transport patient in an emergency vehicle and deliver patient to appropriate medical facility.
- Perform key shift change activities and discuss pertinent issues with Operations Officer (MSO1).
- Provide input and oversight to Basic Life Support (BLS) crews regarding treatment and transportation options as needed.
- Check and report the operational and safety status of equipment and medic vehicle to MSO1; perform scheduled equipment maintenance and housekeeping duties.
- Document incidents according to established guidelines, using documents such as Medical Incident Report Forms (MIRF) and appropriate journals.
- Determine appropriate method for handling interpersonal incidents and issues in the field, including the need to involve MSO1.
- Participate in safety training as mandated by federal and state law; assist with public education and injury prevention efforts.
- Assist with accident investigations. Determine appropriate information to convey to on-duty medics, base hospital physicians or other emergency response personnel regarding response needs and incident circumstances.
- Participate in special activities or training as directed by Medical Services Officers and the Medical Services Administrator.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Graduated from the University of Washington / Harborview Medical Center Paramedic Training Program.
- Current state or national certification as a Paramedic.
- Demonstrated knowledge of emergency medical care.
- Demonstrated skill in communicating clearly orally and in writing.
- Demonstrated skill in accurately recalling information and events associated with emergency services.
- Demonstrated skill in calmly communicating with patients and family members who are under duress.
- Demonstrated ability to perform emergency assessments and emergency treatments.

Examination Process
- Applicants who meet the posted required qualifications will be asked to participate in a skills assessment center and oral board / interview process.
- Applicants who have completed and passed all parts of the examination process will be placed on an eligibility list. This list will remain in effect for six months or until a new examination is conducted and a list created.
- The selected finalists will be required to pass a psychological fitness evaluation and a comprehensive physical examination, which includes an x-ray of the lower back, and a drug screening. Criminal, driving, and employment background checks will be conducted, and finalists must pass prior to starting employment.
- All educational and work history will be verified. Any applicant that provides false information will automatically be disqualified from the process.
