Summary
This recruitment will fill current vacancies and establish an employment list (valid up to 12 months) to fill future vacancies as they become available.
The duties of a Personal Recognizance Investigator (PRI) include conducting one-to-one interviews with persons who have been newly booked into jail to determine release eligibility and make appropriate program and release recommendations. Incumbent has direct contact with the inmate population. PRI staff works collaboratively with a variety of stakeholders including inmate references and agencies. Screening/intake interviews are conducted within the booking area and inmate housing areas of the correctional facility, and entails working with a diverse population of inmates, departments and court personnel.
Duties within secured adult detention facilities require the ability to navigate ramps, narrow hallways, opening and closing heavy doors and working in confined areas. Population includes potentially volatile individuals with emotional, mental health, and alcohol and/or substance abuse-related problems.
Personal Recognizance Investigators, also known as, PR Screeners, work within the Community Corrections Division of DAJD. This division provides services pre and post-convictions in CCAP, EHD, and ISU; as described below.

Work Location:
The Personal Recognizance Investigator will work within a secure jail setting and will be assigned to either the King County Correctional Facility - Downtown Seattle or the Maleng Regional Justice Center - Kent. Employees must be able to work at either the Seattle or Kent facilities as needed. Assignments are subject to the staffing needs of the department and collective bargaining unit bid processes. On occasion there will be need for court appearances and/or assignment to a specialty court.
Work Schedule:
This is a regular career service, overtime-eligible position. Full-Time: 40-hour work week. The current opening is specifically for swing shift, from 7:00 pm - 5:00 am (1900 - 0500), Friday through Monday. Facilities are operational 24 hours per day, seven days per week. Candidates must be able to work a schedule that includes evenings, weekends, possibly holidays, and must be able to be contacted in emergency situations. Work schedule is subject to the staffing needs of the department and collective bargaining unit bid processes.

- Community Center for Alternative Programs (CCAP) holds offenders accountable to a weekly itinerary directed at involving the offender in a continuum of structured programs.
- Electronic Home Detention (EHD) allows offenders to serve all or some portion of their pre-trial and/or sentenced time at home. Offenders are monitored electronically and are confined to their homes, except when following a set schedule that may include attendance at work, school, or treatment.
- The Intake Services Unit (ISU) provides information to the court to expedite the release of appropriate defendants awaiting adjudication or to ensure that offenders are not incarcerated when other appropriate alternatives are available.

Job Duties
Essential functions include, but are not limited to:
- Interview persons who have been booked into jail or appear in specialty court for misdemeanor and/or felony offenses. Identify and refer special situations to appropriate staff.
- Contact references, victims, court personnel, probation/parole officers and/or law enforcement personnel to obtain information.
- Respond to questions/concerns from department staff, the public, courts, attorneys, and other agencies. Work collaboratively with a variety of stakeholders to make appropriate recommendations.
- Maintain accurate records; write clear and concise reports and recommendations to the court. Utilize a variety of computer programs/database systems to input interview data, conduct criminal records checks, and access a variety of automated/electronic information systems.
- Review and evaluate data from multiple sources in order to make appropriate, objective release determinations and/or recommendations.
- Backfill for court calendars as needed; prepare first-appearance court calendars/schedules.
- Ensure and maintain confidentiality of sensitive information in all forms (verbal, written, and electronic/automated information systems).
- Provide excellent customer service to internal and external customers.
- Perform other duties as assigned within the area and scope of responsibilities.
Minimum Qualifications :
- A bachelor's degree with major coursework in criminal justice, social or behavioral sciences, OR, High School Diploma or G.E.D. with five years of direct experience conducting intake interviews, screening, and/or client assessments.
- Requires excellent communication skills (both verbal and written), strong attention to detail, and ability to work collaboratively with a variety of stakeholders.
- Computer proficiency is required; selected candidate must be able to utilize computers/electronic database programs to conduct inquiries and to access, retrieve and update data/records.
- Proficiency in Outlook and Microsoft Word is required.
- Understanding of the Risk Need Principles
- Prior experience working in Evidenced Based and Promising Practices programs
- Prior experience with Risk and Need Assessments
- Prior experience working in a behavioral health organization or in the corrections field.
- Professional, full-time paid work experience identifying, interviewing, and assessing persons with behavior, mental health, drug and/or alcohol related issues, including experience working with potentially volatile clientele.
- Experience working collaboratively with a variety of stakeholders to serve a diverse population.
