About the Role:
King County Wastewater Treatment Division is one of the top wastewater utilities in the nation, involved in cutting edge technologies and approaches to conveyance, treatment, and reclamation of wastewater. The variety and scale of our facilities and projects will be beyond what most employers can offer. This position is a wastewater engineering position to lead and coordinate the design process, and support the construction of Pump Stations, Sewer Interceptors, and Treatment Plant processes. We are filling multiple positions for Civil and Mechanical Engineers.
These Senior Engineering positions are an opportunity to work on a fun and collaborative team who is dedicated to design, process improvement, and producing quality products to improve the WTD Conveyance and Treatment systems.

*Note: Effective 1/1/2025, salary steps will include an additional 5.5% general wage increase per the agreement reached between King County and the Coalition of Unions agreement .

Job Duties
What You Will Be Doing:
- Serve as Project Engineer to coordinate design of County projects, for facilities such as sewer trunks, force mains, pump stations, regulator stations, storage tanks, and treatment facilities. Coordinate design between engineering disciplines and the internal and external design review team members; translate operational and maintenance.
- Serve as a single point of technical contact for the consultant-designed plans and specifications to ensure conformity to the County's specifications, standards, and requirements. Review and consolidate technical comments from design reviews.
- Work with the Project Manager to develop work plan, schedule, and budget for the execution of designs for wastewater projects.
- Assist with complex emergency repairs of wastewater facilities when technical engineering assistance is necessary.
- Perform Construction support Services. Review shop drawings and technical documentation on products submitted by contractors, assist in the interpretation of specifications, advise on contractor compliance with contract documents, and review change orders.
- Mentor junior level engineers and interns.
Experience, Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills
Qualifications You Bring:
- Bachelor's degree in civil engineering, mechanical engineering, or closely related engineering field.
- Eight (8) years of increasingly responsible engineering experience including project planning, design, and construction.
- Familiarity with water, wastewater and/or industrial facilities and construction principles and techniques.
- Familiarity with public utilities, planning, design and construction.
- Demonstrated experience in solving complex technical issues within a multi-discipline work environment.
- Experience in managing multiple, complex capital projects simultaneously within established timeframes, and costs.
- Customer Focused - Building strong customer relationships and delivering customer-centric solutions.
- Cultivates Innovation - Creating new and better ways for the organization to be successful.
- Optimizes Work Processes - Knowing the most effective and efficient processes to get things done, with a focus on continuous improvement.

- Washington State Driver's License.
- Registration as a Profession Engineer in State of Washington or the ability to obtain this within 90 days of hiring.
- Ability to provide leadership and direction to the other engineers and professional and technical staff of a section responsible for implementing a major engineering program; delegates authority to personnel commensurate with responsibility and ensures the proper functioning of section staff.
- Knowledge of engineering design directly relating to earth work, foundations, facilities, or water and wastewater conveyance and treatment.
- Knowledge of industry codes and standards within civil or mechanical engineering.
- Ability to collaborate in the development of alternatives in a team environment.
Supplemental Information
Working Conditions:
- Remote and Onsite Work Details: Employees in this role work remotely from a home location, with onsite reporting requirements up to 3 times a week. The frequency of onsite work is determined by business needs and may be adjusted accordingly. Onsite reporting locations may be at various King County worksites including the collaboration space at King Street Center (201 S. Jackson St, Seattle, WA 98104) and treatment plant facilities. This work arrangement promotes work-life-balance and reduces carbon footprint under the department's vision of Green Where We Work.
- Requirement: Employees must reside in Washington State and be within a reasonable distance to King County worksites to meet onsite reporting requirements.
- Work Schedule: This full-time position works a 40-hour work week. This position is exempt from the overtime provision of the Fair Labor Standard Act (FLSA) and is not overtime eligible.
- Union Representation: This position is represented by T echnical Employee's Association (TEA).
