SUMMARY:
Public Health is seeking a part time Public Health is seeking a Psychiatrist (or other board-certified physician with significant psychiatric prescribing experience) to join the Mobile Street Medicine Team in order to pilot the expansion of Street Medicine Team services to include street based Behavioral Health appointments.
The Street Medicine Team is a collaboration between King County Public Health and the Downtown Emergency Services Center (DESC) and provides low barrier medical, nursing and harm reduction services to persons experiencing homelessness in King County. The Street Team focuses primarily on “rough sleepers”, or people who live predominantly outside.
Philosophy of care encompasses a patient centered, harm reduction based and trauma informed practice that is guided by equity and social justice. The Street Medicine team consists of an Adult Registered Nurse Practitioner, a Public Health Nurse and a Behavioral Health Specialist. The team provides general medical assessments, STI testing, pregnancy tests, birth control, wound care, foot care, Narcan kits and training, and suboxone. The team can also complete housing assessments (VI-SPDATs, VATs) as well as Medicaid sign ups.
The team provides services primarily outside (and occasionally in a Van/Coach or inside a homeless service site such as a day center or shelter).
The provider will be a collaborative member of the Street Medicine team, will provide direct Behavioral Health services in the field and will advise the Street Medicine team on best practices for inclusion of behavioral health care into street based medical care.

Job Duties:
Duties will include: direct care of patients on a primary episodic basis, with opportunity for follow up visits during targeted outreach; prescribe psychiatric medications (as appropriate) in the field to patients, authorize psychiatric medication refills and assist with referrals to outpatient psych care. There will also be telephone consult/charting/advising time.
OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
This role will assist in adapting the following duties and responsibilities to a field setting.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:- Assist with developing new partnerships and strengthening current relationships with Behavioral Health partners to facilitate referrals
- Strong psychiatric diagnostic and prescriptive knowledge.
- Knowledge and skill in working with co-occurring mental health and substance abuse disorders.
- Experience working with adults who are experiencing or who have experienced homelessness, have a mental illness and/or co-occurring substance abuse disorders.
- Valid Washington State Driver’s License, reliable vehicle and insurable driving record.
- Ability to relate to a wide range of people, demonstration of highly developed communication skills, and a desire to serve adults experiencing serious mental illness, co-occurring substance use disorders and histories of or current homelessness.
- Ability to work effectively with clients displaying a wide range of unpleasant and/or bizarre behavior.
- Ability to communicate and work effectively with staff from various backgrounds.
- Subscribe to the philosophy of cooperation and continuity across programs and of consideration and respect for clients.
- A National Provider Identification (NPI) must be obtained prior to employment.
- Washington State Medical License must be obtained prior to employment.
- Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) registration must be obtained prior to employment.
- Board certification in Psychiatry. Applicants with alternative board certifications (Internal Medicine, Family Medicine) and significant mental health experience and a comfort/willingness to prescribe and monitor psychiatric medications as part of a non-traditional outreach/street-based mobile team are also appropriate.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:- Experience providing field based psychiatry/outreach or behavioral health services.
- A physician waiver to prescribe buprenorphine under the Drug Addiction Treatment Act of 2000 (DATA 2000)

WORK SCHEDULE: This is a short term temporary position. The schedule is flexible and can be anywhere from 1 to 3 days per week. The Street Team works Monday-Friday from 8 a.m.-5 p.m., with some on-call, evening, and weekend availability required.
WORK LOCATION: This position is a field based position in various locations in King County. The Street Team offices are located in Downtown Seattle in the Chinook building of Public Health.
