Public Records and Compliance Manager
- Summary
King County's Office of Risk Management Services (ORMS) is seeking an exceptional people leader to become our new Public Records and Compliance Manager. This position is responsible for leading a team of professionals in the following programs: public records, lobbyist registration, ethics, and financial disclosure. Our successful candidate will be an effective leader, communicator and will foster collaboration with our internal and external partners. KEY DELIVERABLES AND EXPECTATIONS: Reporting to the Director of the Office of Risk Management Services, this section manager is responsible for managing multiple team members while also providing strategic direction and, removing obstacles. This person must approach work with a mindset to improve workflows and operating systems while incorporating equity and social justice practices into all aspects of the section’s work. This person must have a strong customer service focus and will be a key member of the ORMS Management Team.
SCOPE OF JOB DUTIES: In order to be considered for this opportunity, you must at a minimum, demonstrate skill and ability to:- Focus on respect with emphasis on continuous improvement and Equity and Social Justice.
- Oversee management of public records requests and directly manage the team handling the requests.
- Support the compliance team in ensuring that the financial disclosure, lobbyist registration and ethics programs are adequately supported and accomplishing their objectives.
- Have excellent communication skills, verbal and written, with ability to tailor messages to a wide range of audiences.
- Reinforce a culture of employee engagement which supports the development, learning, coaching, and team-building necessary for the workforce of the future.
- Supervise the work of team members. Hire, assign and schedule work, evaluate performance, and initiate disciplinary action when appropriate.
- Collaborate with office management team to craft and monitor the section’s budget and strategic planning efforts.
WE ARE LOOKING FOR CANDIDATES WHO:- Have project management and change management tools and techniques.
- Are certified Public Records Officer/WAPRO membership or are willing to be a member after employment.
- Are an experienced and effective manager who can operate within a complex multicultural and diverse government workplace.
- Is skilled at managing conflict and is comfortable with having crucial conversations with internal and external customers and staff.
- Have professional experience in records management.
- Have a continuous improvement mindset, can lead processes to update standard work and create new processes.
- Is a champion for Equity & Social Justice. Understands that systematic racism and its long-term effects are pervasive in our society. Are comfortable having candid and sincere conversations with all employees about race and equity in the workplace.
- Can persevere and adapt as required, while working in a multi-faceted and often ambiguous environment.
- Have experience in budget development and monitoring, preferably in a government setting.
- Have any combination of education and experience necessary to perform the job duties.
