King County Metro Transit's Rail Division has an exciting opportunity for multiple Rail Station Custodian Leads.
The Rail Station Custodian Leads will maintain the cleanliness of various rail stations, elevators, escalators, park and rides, plazas and industrial facilities. Duties include identifying, scheduling, coordinating, planning, assigning, overseeing and evaluating the work of other custodial crew members. You will also train personnel and perform related administrative duties using computers and other office equipment.
About Metro Transit's Expanding Rail Division
King County Metro Transit's Rail Division manages and maintains Sound Transit's Link light rail service and City of Seattle's streetcar system. Link light rail currently spans a 33-mile route from SeaTac to Lynnwood and a 6.6-mile route from Redmond to South Bellevue. By the end of 2026, light rail is projected to expand to nearly 60 route miles, adding seven new stations. Additional expansions to the Link system will be coming online for years to come.
Seattle Streetcar includes the 1.3 mile South Lake Union line and the 2.5 mile First Hill line, proudly serving the diverse and vibrant communities around Seattle's downtown core. These rail services complement Metro's extensive fixed-route bus system and mobility services. Puget Sound transit agencies are collaborating to create an integrated transit network that enables people to travel farther, faster, and more easily.
This recruitment may immediately fill up to four (4) Career Service positions and may also be used to establish an eligibility pool for future Career Service vacancies in this classification, valid up to 12 months or until exhausted and at the discretion of the hiring authority.
Interviews are anticipated to occur during the week of March 31 through April 4, 2025 , but are subject to change.

T he most competitive candidates will be invited to participate in a 30-minute computers skills test and a panel interview upon passing the skills test. Formal offers will be finalized after candidates have successfully completed any necessary pre-employment processes, such as reference checks or internal record reviews.
Work Schedule
This position is anticipated to be full time, assigned 40 hours per week. Employees must be able to work any of the three shifts (day, swing, or graveyard) . Work schedule may include non- standard work hours including evenings, weekends and holidays as needed. Schedules are based on a seniority "pick" system and potentially can change every 6 months based on seniority. This position is non- exempt from the provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act and is therefore overtime eligible, with prior supervisory approval.
Union Membership: This position is represented by Amalgamated Transit Union (ATU), Local 587.
Work Location: Employees may report to any of the following locations: Operations and Maintenance Facility Central at 3407 Airport Way S, Seattle, or our new Eastside campus Operations and Maintenance Facility at 1925 120th Ave NE Bellevue, or any other locations that may be added or changed in the future.

Job Duties

As the Rail Station Custodian Lead , you will:
- Prioritize, schedule and assign work for custodial crew.
- Oversee and evaluate the work of station custodians and monitor work in progress Investigate and resolve citizen complaints.
- Secure areas for safe cleaning.
- Clean and provide litter and trash pick-up at stations, platforms, park and rides, plazas, right-of-ways and various industrial light rail facilities.
- Load and unload small equipment, debris and trash Mix and use cleaning chemicals and solutions.
- Empty trash and recycle bins.
- Operate pressure washers, floor scrubbers and associated equipment.
- Clean, stock and sanitize restrooms and elevators.
- Dust, wipe, wash and vacuum surfaces.
- Request and stock various supplies.
- Clean glass and surface areas; remove graffiti.
- Respond to emergency calls as necessary and prioritize emergency tasks in the absence of on-site supervision.
- Plan, schedule and coordinate activities and work with other trades; assist other trades as necessary.
- Perform snow and ice removal.
- Operate company assigned vehicles.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Experience, Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills
Minimum Qualifications:
- Two years of recent professional industrial cleaning/janitorial experience and one year of recent professional Lead experience.
- Knowledge of basic janitorial techniques.
- Knowledge in the use and care of cleaning equipment.
- Knowledge of basic safety rules and applicable OSHA laws.
- Knowledge in the proper use, mixing and disposal of cleaning chemicals and solutions.
- Skill in reading, following and safely handling cleaning supplies per manufacturer's instructions.
- Intermediate verbal and written communication skills including the ability to understand and deliver instructions in English.
- Basic computer skills; ability to use Microsoft Office products, the internet and other required office equipment, tools and resources.
- Skill in dealing proactively and sensitively with customers.
- Skill in performing multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Skill in working with a variety of individuals from diverse backgrounds.
- Skill in learning new methods and ways of doing work.
- Skill in problem solving and analytical skills required to solve common problems.
- Knowledge of and compliance with applicable safety standards and requirements.

- Pressure washing experience.
- Valid Washington State Driver License (or ability to obtain within 30 days of hire), with an acceptable driving history.
- Forklift, Aerial Lift, and First-Aid/CPR certifications must be acquired within 90 days of hire date (training will be provided by employer).
- Work from high places from mechanical lift devices, indoors and outdoors and in inclement weather, is required.
- Additional licenses, certifications and other requirements determined to be necessary to meet the business needs of the employing unit may be required.
- Constantly lift, carry and move objects of less than 25 pounds.
- Lift and move up to 50 pounds unassisted.
- Move up to 100 pounds with assistance.
- Work at heights reaching up to 40 feet.
- Walk continuously throughout the workday.
