Summary
King County Metro Transit's Rail Division is looking to fill multiple positions with candidates that are dependable, detail-oriented Rail Station Custodian Leads to be a contributing member of the Rail Facilities Management team. The selected candidates will maintain the cleanliness of various rail stations, elevators, escalators, park and rides, plazas and industrial facilities. In addition to performing the full range of responsibilities of the Rail station custodian, additional functions include identifying, scheduling, coordinating, planning, assigning, overseeing and evaluating the work of other custodial crew members. Leads will train personnel and perform related administrative duties using computers and other office equipment.
Link Light Rail
Metro Transit's Rail Division is responsible for operating and maintaining Link Light Rail service on a 20 plus mile route from the Angle Lake Station south of Sea-Tac Airport to the Northgate station in North Seattle. Plans and/or construction are underway extending the system to the north, east, south, and west. Expansion over the next five years alone will include the addition of more than 20 stations and 40 miles of light rail track. The light rail line is a critical part of the region's transportation network and carries more than 79,000 weekday daily riders.
Who May Apply:
This recruitment is open to all qualified candidates and will fill multiple career service vacancies in the Rail Division, and may also be used to establish a list to fill future opportunities that may occur over the next six months, at the discretion of the hiring manager. Additional consideration will be given to career service employees with a minimum of two years' experience in the Rail Station Custodian classification.
Work Schedule: This position is non-exempt from the provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act and is overtime eligible. Employees must be able to work any of the three shifts (day, swing, or graveyard) . Work schedule may include non- standard work hours including evenings, weekends and holidays as needed. Schedules are based on a seniority "pick" system and potentially can change every 6 months based on seniority. Per the union contract shift differential is paid to those working second and third shifts. Shift pay is 5% for second shift and 7.5% for third shift, on top of hourly pay. The normal workweek is five 8-hour shifts per week, with two consecutive days off, but not necessarily weekends off. This is an essential position and is required to report to work during adverse weather and/or other urgent/emergency needs.
Current hourly rates are: dayshift wage $34.13, 2nd Shift: $35.84, 3rd Shift: $36.69
Location
Work typically involves responsibility for more than one Light Rail station or other facilities and will involve driving from station to station using our vehicles. Employees may report to any of the following locations: Operations and Maintenance Facility Central at 3407 Airport Way S, Seattle, or our new Eastside campus Operations and Maintenance Facility at 1925 120th Ave NE Bellevue, or any other locations that may be added or changed in the future.

Job Duties

- Prioritize, schedule and assign work for custodial crew.
- Oversee and evaluate the work of station custodians and monitor work in progress Investigate and resolve citizen complaints.
- Secure areas for safe cleaning.
- Clean and provide litter and trash pick-up at stations, platforms, park and rides, plazas, right-of-ways and various industrial light rail facilities.
- Load and unload small equipment, debris and trash Mix and use cleaning chemicals and solutions.
- Empty trash and recycle bins.
- Operate pressure washers, floor scrubbers and associated equipment.
- Clean, stock and sanitize restrooms and elevators.
- Dust, wipe, wash and vacuum surfaces
- Request and stock various supplies.
- Clean glass and surface areas; remove graffiti.
- Respond to emergency calls as necessary and prioritize emergency tasks in the absence of on-site supervision.
- Plan, schedule and coordinate activities and work with other trades; assist other trades as necessary.
- Perform snow and ice removal.
- Operate company assigned vehicles.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
We are looking for candidates who meet the following minimum qualifications:
- Two years of recent professional industrial cleaning/janitorial experience AND one year of recent professional L ead experience .
- Knowledge of basic janitorial techniques.
- Knowledge in the use and care of cleaning equipment.
- Knowledge of basic safety rules and applicable OSHA laws.
- Knowledge in the proper use, mixing and disposal of cleaning chemicals and solutions.
- Skill in reading, following and safely handling cleaning supplies per manufacturer's instructions.
- Intermediate oral and written communication skills including the ability to understand and deliver instructions in English.
- Basic computer skills; ability to use Microsoft Office products, the internet and other required office equipment, tools and resources.
- Skill in dealing proactively and sensitively with customers.
- Skill in performing multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Skill in working with a variety of individuals from diverse backgrounds.
- Skill in learning new methods and ways of doing work.
- Skill in problem solving and analytical skills required to solve common problems.
- Knowledge of and compliance with applicable safety standards and requirements.

- Forklift, Aerial Lift, and First-Aid/CPR certifications must be acquired within 90 days of hire date (training will be provided by employer).
- Work from high places from mechanical lift devices, indoors and outdoors and in inclement weather, is required.
- Additional licenses, certifications and other requirements determined to be necessary to meet the business needs of the employing unit may be required.
- Constantly lift, carry and move objects of less than 25 pounds.
- Lift and move up to 50 pounds unassisted.
- Move up to 100 pounds with assistance.
- Work at heights reaching up to 40 feet.
- Walk continuously throughout the workday.
- Experience and skill in forklift and/or aerial lift operation.
- Pressure washing experience.
- Current or previous Lead experience.
