King County has a new strategic action plan called Re+ and it is 're+writing' the book on managing waste, re+cycling, and composting. We need someone to lead and monitor various aspects of implementation, develop performance measures, and kick off the next update to the plan (with a focus on lumber reuse and other materials). If you are passionate about the environment and want to play a real role in transforming how the region manages its material re+sources, this position with the King County Solid Waste Division (SWD) may be your perfect fit!

Major Projects/Tasks:
This position's main roles will be centered around tracking/monitoring the implementation of Re+ programs and developing performance measures to track the Division's progress, including reporting on progress to Division leadership. This position will also kick off and lead a more minor update to the initial Re+ Plan to develop and incorporate new materials into the Plan.
What You Will De Doing:
Work Location: Primarily teleworking and the King Street Center 201 S. Jackson St., Seattle WA 98104.
Work Schedule: This position generally works a 40-hour work week, Monday through Friday. This full-time career service position is exempt from the provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) and is not eligible for overtime.

What You Will De Doing:
- Guide and monitor the implementation of the Re+ Plan
- Lead the development and monitoring of Re+ Plan performance measures
- Lead the development of Re+ 1.5, a smaller addendum to the main plan to focus more on materials like lumber
- Other ad hoc analyses or assignments as needed and as availability allows.
- A Bachelor's degree and experience in public policy, planning for utility or government services, or operational planning (preferably within a service delivery environment); and at least three (3) years of work experience in the solid waste industry or other municipal administration or any combination of experience/education/training that clearly demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the scope of job duties of the position
- Excellent communication skills including written and oral communication and listening skills.
- Knowledge and demonstrated experience in strategic planning techniques, principles, and practices preferably in a local government setting
- Knowledge of project management techniques and principles
- Knowledge of developing performance management systems to track progress on projects and monitor performance metrics
- Demonstrated experience in synthesizing information and making recommendations within and outside of established policies and procedures.
- Prior experience in developing a solid waste strategic or comprehensive plan
- Knowledge of current and emerging trends in the solid waste industry, including waste prevention/recycling practices, technologies, workforce, and cost drivers
- Direct experience in solid waste disposal, collection, transfer station operation, or recycling programs
- Working knowledge in Microsoft Excel (e.g., following formulas and reviewing analyses completed in Excel)
- Experience with enterprise financial systems such as Oracle or SAP
- Knowledge and experience in the practical application of equity and social justice principles in local government work
- A genuine passion and excitement to be on the leading edge of shaping the Solid Waste Division's future.
