Regional Trails Coordinator (Project/Program Manager IV)

King County Parks is seeking a Regional Trails Coordinator (Project/Program Manager IV) to join the division’s Capital Planning unit within the Capital Improvement Program (CIP) team! The CIP team plays a major role in directly carrying out Parks’ mission statement of stewarding, enhancing, and acquiring parks for the community. The Planning Unit is responsible for defining needed investments and helps to shape the future vision of Parks in 10, 20, or 30 years!
This position will primarily focus on the regional trails program, with tasks from planning and policy development to the development of a network of interconnecting regional trails. This is a dynamic role that will collaborate with a multitude of stakeholders, including other government and regulatory agencies to ensure proposals are completed and issues are resolved.

- Lead the coordination of comprehensive planning, policy development, and development and coordination of Shared Use Paths (Regional Trails).
- Serve as the primary Parks contact and lead coordination with the Puget Sound Regional Council and coalition partners regarding the Regional Trails Program and other local or regional mobility connections.
- Work collaboratively with other government and regulatory agencies, coalitions, or departments to address proposed projects, policies, and issues.
- Research and respond to public inquiries by drafting, vetting, and formalizing well thought out reports, letters, and/or emails.
- Apply an Equity and Social Justice lens to all actions, processes, decisions, and agreements.
- Experience, Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills
Required Qualifications:
- Demonstrated, increasingly responsible experience in land use, transportation, environmental, and/or strategic planning, public administration, project management, or a field relating to recreation, regional trail networks, long-term facilities, and/or corridor planning.
- Experience and working knowledge of planning principles, land use regulations, transportation, environmental regulations, and regional planning processes.
- Significant experience with bicycle and pedestrian systems and plans.
- Familiarity with comprehensive planning, strategic planning, and policies for Transportation, Parks, and Public Facilities.
- Experience working with a variety of agencies, stakeholders, elected officials, and the public on planning and development projects.
- Experience preparing and presenting briefings to supervisors, division managers, and elected officials.
- Strong communication skills, including the ability to work with staff throughout the division, other professionals, other jurisdictions and agencies, coalition partners, and the public.

Preferred Qualifications:- Seven (7) to ten (10) years of increasingly responsible experience with a combination of skills in governmental planning including land use, transportation, environmental, and strategic planning as well as experience with long-term facilities and corridor planning.
- Master’s degree in urban planning or equivalent work experience.

Working Conditions:
- Work Location: This position is primarily teleworking, the King Street Center at 201 S. Jackson St., Seattle WA 98104, and occasional site visits to regional trails across King County.
- Work Hours: This full-time position works a 40-hour work week.
- FLSA Status: This position is exempt from the overtime provision of the Fair Labor Standard Act (FLSA) and is not overtime eligible.
- Union Representation: This position is not represented by a union.
- Physical Requirements: This job requires the ability to work, travel to, and walk in internal and external work areas. Those work areas expose the selected individual to varying weather and environmental conditions such as heat, rain, snow, mud, dust, wind, and construction sites in various stages of completion. It also includes the need for the selected individual to transverse uneven ground during day or night-time hours and occasionally to work on unscheduled days as determined by the project needs.
Employees will be provided with a County issued laptop and must maintain a workspace with an internet connection (access may be supplemented in some situations) where they can reliably perform work and remain available and responsive during scheduled work hours. Please note that when an employee conducts work that is likely to bring them in contact with another individual, safety precautions are required, including the wearing of masks in some situations.
