King County Metro Transit’s Streetcar Section is conducting an internal recruitment for Reserve Streetcar Operators to fill future Career Service Streetcar Operator vacant positions and for temporary assignment to Streetcar as needed. Candidates who are selected and meet the qualifications through this process will be placed on an eligibility list, good for one year.
Safety Sensitive
This position is considered safety sensitive. Applicants for positions defined as safety sensitive are required to undergo drug testing prior to employment and, subsequent to commencement of employment, will be subject to random, post-accident, reasonable suspicion, return to duty and follow-up drug and alcohol testing in compliance with Federal DOT alcohol and controlled substances testing program protocols.
Who May Apply
Streetcar Section is currently accepting applications ONLY from current King County Metro Transit full-time and part-time Transit Operators and Rail Operators. Recruitment is not open to the general public. This recruitment will establish a reserve list of qualified Operators for transfers to streetcar positions as they become available. Streetcar operator positions will be offered by seniority to qualified full-time Transit and Rail operators first. The list will remain in effect for twelve months.

Locations
Streetcar Operators may be assigned to either of our two Streetcar base locations as a part of the seniority pick system: First Hill (848 7th Ave. S, Seattle) and South Lake Union (318 Fairview Ave. N, Seattle). Extra Board Operators will be assigned to one Location but can be deployed at either one.
Work Schedule
All positions are non-exempt and work a 40-hour workweek. Must be available for day and night work, weekend and holiday work, and split shifts.

Streetcar operators will operate a streetcar on either the South Lake Union or First Hill Streetcar Line.
Provide safe, professional, and courteous on-time streetcar service for customers in King County
- Provide passenger customer service including assisting passengers with special needs and in special circumstances, including offering assistance in boarding or de-boarding; providing information to passengers regarding service area, schedules, etc.
- Follow all streetcar rules, policies, and procedures
- Effectively operate transit vehicles and equipment
- Successfully communicate with and follow direction from O&M Supervisors or LINK Control Center via radio
- Communicate effectively with all customers regarding service delays, disruptions, and during emergency situations
- Prepare and submit accident and incident reports; maintain records and other documentation as determined by management

Minimum Qualifications
- Knowledge of safe driving techniques and principles for public transportation vehicles
- Knowledge of operating public transportation passenger vehicles
- Knowledge of federal, state and local roadway laws relating to the operation of passenger-carrying motor vehicles
- Skill in preparing and maintaining reports including accident, incident and other reports
- Skill in operating a two-way radio and public address system
- Skill in reading, understanding and following schedules; skill in following oral and written instructions

- Supplemental Information
Streetcar Section is conducting an internal recruitment for Reserve Streetcar Operators to fill future Career Service Streetcar Operator vacant positions and for temporary assignment to Streetcar as needed. Candidates who are selected and meet the qualifications through this process will be placed on an eligibility list, good for one year.
As needed, Streetcar will conduct training classes, which will be offered to candidates on the eligibility list in seniority order. Prior to training, applicants are required to attend a mandatory Information Session, with times and locations provided prior to placement in a training class. At the Information Session, applicants will learn more about Streetcar and details about the Streetcar Operator position and will be asked to confirm their commitment to moving forward if selected for training. If an applicant does not attend the mandatory Information Session or chooses not to move forward with training when offered, they may be removed from eligibility list.
Training is an intensive four-week course that consists of classroom and hands-on operating instruction. During the training period, no vacation is allowed. Any already arranged time-off will need to be postponed to a later date. While in training, Streetcar Operator Trainees may not opt to return to their FTO/PTO position.
Employees who complete Streetcar Operator training and become certified will be placed on a reserve list in seniority order. If not immediately needed to fill a regular career service vacancy or temporary assignment, Reserve Streetcar Operators will return to their FTO/PTO positions.
As needed, Streetcar will offer temporary assignments to employees on the reserve list in order to fill temporary workforce shortages. The temporary assignment will be offered to operators on the reserve list in seniority order. For available operators on the reserve list, if a temporary assignment becomes available, the employee must accept the assignment.
When a permanent Career Service position becomes available, it will be offered to those on the reserve list by seniority. If a Reserve Streetcar Operator turns down an offer of appointment to a Career Service Streetcar Operator position, they will be removed from the Streetcar Operator Reserve list.

Record ReviewPrior to placement into the Streetcar Operator training class, operators must pass a record review. Performance records will be reviewed for the candidate's most recent 12 months of active driving service. Points will be assessed for the following:
- Misses (6 points for each unexcused absence; 3 points for each absence; 3 points for late reports) Absences and late reports purged by the bus side 60/30 day rule will be counted for Rail.
- Preventable Accidents (15 points for each severe accident; 8 points for the first major accident; 7 points for each subsequent major accident; 5 points for each minor accident)
Those with a score of greater than 14 will be disqualified. A major infraction within 24 months of the date of review will result in disqualification.
Driving Record
An excellent driving record is a requirement to become a Streetcar Operator. Applicants' driving records will be reviewed prior to selection. Transit Human Resources Office will purchase a current Five-Year Driving Abstract from the Washington State Department of Licensing. Driving records will be assessed on an individual basis and will be reviewed for the following: Frequency and seriousness of moving violations, suspension of license, failures to appear (FTA'S), unpaid tickets, and at fault accidents.
