This position will support road, bridge and drainage projects in the Capital Improvement Program (CIP) and countywide programs. The Engineer must possess knowledge of technical disciplines, including but not limited to Geotechnical, Environmental, Hydraulics, Traffic, Construction, Survey. required for implementation of roadway, traffic, bridge and drainage projects. Scope of Job Duties: To be considered for this opportunity, you must, at a minimum, demonstrate knowledge, skill, and ability to:
- Support road, traffic, bridge and drainage Capital Improvement Projects (CIPs) and countywide programs in accordance with applicable standards and environmental regulations; coordinate with consultants, regulatory agencies, support staff and the public to resolve project issues
- Assist Project Manager on specific task or assignment from inception to construction completion including project closure
- Provide technical Civil 3D design and AutoCAD expertise to develop engineering plans for assigned projects in accordance with King County Road CADD Standards
- Prepare design, plan details, specifications and cost estimates for assigned projects; coordinate and monitor project scope, schedule, and budget; prepare and/or review technical reports
- Prepare illumination design and analysis for project team review
- Prepare and/or review right-of-way plans and legal descriptions
- Perform field investigation and assessments
- Assist the Project Manager to coordinate a multidisciplinary team from project inception to construction completion; facilitate team communication, goals, efforts and deliverables
- Able to debug and resolve issues pertaining to AutoCAD and Civil 3D

We are looking for candidates who have:
- Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering and two years of roadway design experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience that demonstrates knowledge of transportation/traffic engineering principles.
- Knowledge of technical disciplines including but not limited to Geotechnical, Environmental, Hydraulics, Traffic, Construction, Survey, etc. required for implementation of roadway, traffic, bridge and drainage projects
- Experience performing field evaluation/review and provide recommendations for project scope and construction cost estimates
- Experience working effectively on multiple projects and priorities under close deadlines and changing priorities
- Experience reviewing, analyzing and tracking the progress of construction project schedules
- Minimum 2 years' experience using AutoCAD and Civil3D design software (or equivalent) to design road, traffic, bridge and drainage projects
- Knowledge and experience using the current WSDOT Design Manual, King County Road Design and Construction Standards and CADD Standards or equivalent, ADA Standards and Guidelines
- Ability to read, interpret and develop engineering plans, specifications and cost estimates for road, traffic, bridge and drainage projects
- Ability to communicate clearly and effectively both orally and in writing
- Ability to work effectively independently and in a team setting and contribute to a work environment that embraces and encourages diversity in its workforce and where differences are valued
- Valid Washington State Driver's License at the time of hire
- An offer of employment will be contingent on the success of a pre-employment physical examination
Working Conditions:
- Work performed in the office and field
- Work performed in the field may be under inclement weather conditions and require walking on uneven, steep, rocky or rough ground
- Must be able to safely negotiate and traverse steep slopes
- Must be able to bend and lift to unload and load equipment into vehicles
- Must be able to work around heavy equipment and other potentially high risk activities associated with construction sites
- Specific vision abilities include close, distant, and color
- Physical activity includes lifting up to 30 lbs. to at least waist height; carrying and moving objects
- Must be able to work in an active, high volume traffic environment

The Department of Local Services includes a Director's Office and the Road Services and Permitting Divisions.
