SCADA Controls Technician
- Summary
The Solid Waste Division (SWD) of the King County Department of Natural Resources and Parks is looking for an experienced SCADA Controls Technician to work within their Facilities Engineering and Science Section (FESS). This position will provide technical and administrative support for the Solid Waste Division's Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) system. This position will work in the field supporting the SCADA hardware at various facilities and will work with other Division staff to provide support to the field operations staff as well as the office staff with reports. The SCADA system monitors the Division’s transfer stations, closed landfills, and open landfill wastewater, gas, and facilities environmental equipment.

Work Location: Primarily working at the Cedar Hills landfill in Maple Valley (16650 228th Ave SE, Maple Valley, WA 98038). The work associated with this position will be in the field at the various Solid Waste sites. Employees will have access to shared workspaces at various King County facilities and will be primarily starting and working at Cedar Hills landfill in Maple Valley. Non-field work may be completed remotely from home. Employees must reside in WA state and within a reasonable distance to their King County worksite to respond to workplace reporting requirements.
Work Schedule: This full-time Career Service position works a 40-hour workweek, Monday through Friday with some evening and weekend work as required. This position is not overtime-eligible.
Examples of Job Duties:- Manage, configure and troubleshoot sensors, i.e. static pressure, differential pressure, flow meters, pressure transducers, etc.
- Track expenditures and manage budget request
- Create and manage work order requests for consultant support
- Perform code changes within PLCs as needed and/or requested
- Assist operations with installing sensors and monitoring equipment
- Perform calibration of field equipment
- Review and make recommendations on SCADA designs
- Program and troubleshoot HMI screens and view SE screens
- Manage and troubleshoot VFDs, including any setting modifications.
- Demonstrated working knowledge of RSlinx configuration.
- Demonstrated working knowledge and skills in programming using Studio 5000 programming software for both PLC and HMI displays
- Demonstrated working knowledge and skills using a multimeter to measure AC/DC voltage and milliamperage
- Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot and manage VFDs
- Demonstrated advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Word
- Good communication skills and ability to work in a team environment
- Excellent problem solving and customer service skills
- Skilled in facilitating technical meetings
- Low voltage license or certificate preferred
- Rockwell Studio 5000 ladder logic programming
- Low voltage training
- A valid Washington State Driver’s License.
- A final offer of employment will be contingent upon successfully passing a pre-employment skills test to demonstrate working knowledge of RSlogics 5000, ability to program a PLC, ability to program an HMI and passing a physical examination.
