About the Role:
This position will partner with Gardening and Utility Worker staff at the West Point Treatment Plant and provide assistance. Spring and Summer increases the workload on the Building & Grounds team, and an influx of energetic individuals helps the team manage the workload. Because of seasonal helpers assisting our team, we can maintain and beautify the trails, grounds, and structures of West Point Treatment Plant. This helps us to be good neighbors in the diverse community of King County.

About the Team:
The Building & Grounds team maintains the facilities and grounds of the Wastewater Treatment Division and carries out essential work that protects the environment and all members of the public. We are comprised of a group of professionals that strives to deliver outstanding service through a collaborative effort both at our treatment plants and offsite collection facilities. This contributes to safe and healthy communities in King County and helps the conservation and protection of habitats, ecological functions, and water quality in the Puget Sound.

Job Duties



What You Will Be Doing:
  • Duties include operating mowers, high-pressure washers, pruning tools, maintaining sprinklers and related equipment.
  • Assist personnel in maintenance and cleaning and maintaining of facilities including grounds, garden beds, clean floors, windows, various surfaces and hose various tanks, sidewalks, and surrounding areas.
  • Assist maintenance and operations personnel by performing general laborer duties including clean-up, moving furniture and equipment, and operating county vehicles, and other duties as assigned.

  • Experience in the safe operation of hand and power tools
  • Experience in the safe operation of hedge trimmers
  • Experience in the safe operation of industrial pressure washers
  • Experience in the safe operation of power lawnmowers

Working Conditions:
  • Work Location: West Point Treatment Plant - 1400 Discovery Park Blvd, Seattle, WA, and other King County offsite facilities as needed.
  • Work Schedule: This full-time position works a 40-hour work week. This position is covered under the provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) and is overtime eligible. The position requires the ability to work all shift schedules and to report to work during adverse and inclement weather conditions.
  • Union Representation: This position is represented by S.E.I.U. 925 (Wastewater Treatment Division)
  • Duration : This recruitment aims to fill a Short-Term Temporary (STT) position with an anticipated duration of up to 6 months (ending around October/November, or up to 960 hours, whichever comes first) .
  • Physical Requirement: Incumbents perform fieldwork at a wastewater treatment plant and associated facilities and are required to lift and carry equipment weighing up to 50 pounds, use ladders, and be exposed to hazardous chemicals and noxious odors. A pre-employment physical, review of driving record, and reference checks will be conducted before any final job offer.
