Senior DevOps Engineer
- Summary
KCIT is looking for a Senior DevOps Engineer to help transform and modernize how King County delivers solutions to production. As a key contributor in the Software Engineering DevOps team, you will be responsible for building and implementing sustainable deployment, delivery and monitoring capabilities for delivering solutions to distributed and hybrid cloud environments. You will define and automate ongoing application life cycle management processes and support multiple teams in their use of source control, build, test, release. You will be an integral part of our modernization efforts by identifying and implementing qualitative and quantitative improvements in the software development lifecycle and participating in the ecosystem of tools and processes that support our software and system engineering practices.

Work Location
The primary location of this position is the Chinook Building 401 5th Ave S Seattle WA, 98103. During the mandatory telecommute order through January 8, 2021, work will be done remotely. Please note that there may be occasional on site visits as needed.
Work Schedule
The normal workweek for this position is Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Alternative work schedules may be considered. This position is not eligible for overtime pay.

- Act as a collaborator and bridge between the software, data, quality assurance, infrastructure and operations teams to define, implement, and manage the provisioning, software configuration and release of applications, infrastructure and environments.
- Build, maintain and extend automated Continuous Improvement (CI) and Continuous Delivery (CD) pipelines for internally or externally developed applications, data and infrastructure.
- Partner with teams throughout the SDLC by providing assistance and guidance on source control, build and release management, pipeline development, security, testing, monitoring, workflows and infrastructure.
- Engage with development and quality assurance teams to adopt continuously improving best practices for software delivery.
- Act as an advocate for the enterprise application lifecycle management platform to further its adoption and practice within the organization.
- Participate in the development, evaluation and recommendation of tools, processes and best practices to improve and maintain quality, consistency and velocity of delivery.
- Perform other DevOps duties as needed to administer and maintain the configuration, health and enhancement of the enterprise application lifecycle management platform.
- Experience, Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills
- 4+ years' experience in source control, build and release management.
- Demonstrated experience and expertise with Microsoft source code, build and release management tools (VSS, TFS, VSTS with an emphasis on Azure DevOps).
- Ability to provide leadership, guidance, best practices and tools needed to achieve results and instill positive cultural change in the practice of DevOps.
- Experience working with cloud-based technologies (Microsoft Azure Services and AWS).
- Proven experience developing pipelines and provisioning cloud resources via templates such as Azure Resource Manager and AWS CloudFormation templates.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including presentation skills for both technical and non-technical audiences.
Desirable Qualifications
- Proven ability to collaborate and communicate effectively with software, quality assurance, infrastructure and operations teams.
- Proficiency in one or more programming or scripting languages such as C#, python or PowerShell.
- Software development experience especially in the Microsoft Azure space.
- Experience with Configuration Management tools such as Ansible, Puppet, Chef, Terraform.
- Experience configuring CI/CD pipelines to align with formal SDLC and Change Management processes.
- Embodies a continuous improvement and automation mindset.
