Project Managers, Engineers, Ecologists, and Geologists in the Ecological Restoration and Engineering Services (ERES) Unit work on all aspects of habitat restoration and mitigation projects, from site assessment to design to construction to monitoring and maintenance. The successful candidate will work closely with ecologists, engineers, geologists and planners to advance salmon recovery and watershed health projects and have the opportunity to collaborate and build relationships with other county divisions and departments, regulatory agencies, community organizations as well as individual landowners and residents.

The Water & Land Resources Division (WLRD) delivers a diverse portfolio of environmental services, including stormwater management, salmon recovery, flood risk management, noxious weed removal and supporting agriculture and forestry. All of these functions are supported by a top-notch science section and a property acquisition unit. This portfolio puts WLRD at the center of key plans and initiatives launched by the King County Executive, including Clean Water Healthy Habitat, Strategic Climate Action Plan, Equity and Social Justice Strategic Plan and the Land Conservation Initiative. The work we do is diverse, stimulating and at the forefront of addressing today's environmental challenges.
Who is Eligible: Internal Posting. This Special Duty Assignment (SDA) is open to current career service employees (who have passed probation) in the Department of Natural Resources and Parks. Employees must have their current supervisor's approval to accept a special duty assignment.

The work associated with these positions will be performed predominantly by teleworking, complemented with onsite work and meetings as needed. Employees will have access to shared workspaces at various King County facilities. Employees must reside in Washington state and within a reasonable distance to their King County worksite to respond to workplace reporting requirements.
Employees will be provided with a County issued laptop and must maintain a workspace with an internet connection (access may be supplemented in some situations) where they can reliably perform work and remain available and responsive during scheduled work hours. Please note that when an employee conducts work that is likely to bring them in contact with another individual, safety precautions are required, including the wearing of masks in some situations . Job Duties
- Provide Washington Conservation Corps (WCC) program management duties including budgeting, contracting, coordinating with the WA State Department of Ecology, management reporting, and Division-wide coordination.
- Coordinate the WCC program by working closely with the Program Manager and capital project managers to schedule crews, manage crew logistics, direct and oversee on-site work, complete billings, order supplies, and respond to the daily needs of WCC crews in the field.
- Support capital project teams in the planning, design and implementation of restoration work and manage Small Habitat Restoration Program (SHRP) projects.
Experience, Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in natural, physical, or environmental sciences, or related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience which would provide the knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the duties as described.
- Demonstrated experience managing and implementing restoration programs or capital projects, including cost projections, budget management, scheduling, design, permitting, and inspection.
- Knowledge of and ability to identify native, noxious, and invasive plants of Western Washington, how to use native plants in environmental restoration projects, and how to use best management practices to control noxious and invasive plants.
- Demonstrated ability to manage and be responsible for field crews, and train them in simple construction techniques, planting and plant maintenance, native plant and noxious weed identification, wetland and riparian ecology, equipment use, equipment maintenance, and occupational safety.
- Demonstrated understanding of and experience working in situations requiring cross-cultural sensitivity and centering racial equity, social justice principles, and environmental justice.
- Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written forms.
- Demonstrated proficiency using Geographical Positioning Systems (GPS), Geographical Information Systems (e.g., ArcGIS), and MS Excel for data analysis.
- Familiarity with the Puget Sound regional approach to Chinook salmon recovery and how it is applied to restoration projects.
- Ensures accountability - Holding self and others accountable to meet commitments.

Working Conditions:
- Work Location: Predominantly teleworking and the King Street Center 201 S. Jackson St., Seattle WA 98104.
- Work Schedule: This position is covered under the provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) and is overtime eligible. This full-time position works a 40-hour work week, Monday through Friday with alterative schedules possible.
