Summary

King County Department of Information Technology (KCIT) is seeking a Senior Systems Engineer to join our Messaging and Collaboration team to provide tier 2 administration and support of the County’s messaging and collaboration systems ensuring availability and optimal performance.

In this role, you are responsible for supporting and maintaining the daily operations of key communication and collaboration tools such as our Exchange Hybrid environment which consists of Exchange 2016 and Exchange Online, Microsoft 365 Administration, SharePoint Online, Teams, Planner, Power BI and other Microsoft 365 Apps. The ideal candidate will have strong experience in Microsoft 365 Administration, Exchange, SharePoint online, and other Microsoft 365 Applications and be an enthusiastic engineer who will work collaboratively with other teams to grow our ecosystem with a commitment to high quality end-to-end services through a quality first culture. Work Location
The primary location of this position is the Chinook Building 401 5th Ave S Seattle WA, 98103.  During the mandatory telecommute order through January 8, 2021, work will be done remotely. Please note that there may be occassional on site visits as needed.

Work Schedule
The normal workweek for this position is Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Alternative work schedules may be considered. This position is not eligible for overtime pay. In addition, you may be required to work additional hours to respond to workload needs and will need to participate in After Hours Support rotations.

Job Duties

  • Provide tier 2 support for all Messaging & Collaboration systems (Microsoft 365 Exchange Hybrid Environment, Exchange 2016, Exchange Online, SharePoint Online, Teams, Planner, Power BI and other Microsoft 365 Apps) resolving incidents and responding to service requests
  • Participate in design-related conversations
  • Day-to-day operational support by performing advanced configuration and engineering work to ensure high availability and optimal performance
  • Lead the installation, upgrades, testing, and maintenance of Exchange and other tools, which includes installing new software releases and system upgrades, evaluating and installing patches, and conducting application migrations, refreshes, and restores
  • Ensure the performance and reliability of systems by monitoring for high availability and satisfactory response time
  • Develop and maintain standard operating procedures and technical documentation for assigned systems
  • Serve as the technical lead on project teams; act as a resource for staff providing subject matter expertise in Microsoft 365 Messaging and Collaboration tools

Experience, Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills


Technical Skills

  • 3+ years of experience administering Exchange 2010/2016/Exchange Online and SharePoint
  • 3+ years administering Microsoft 365 platform
  • Experience creating, modifying and running PowerShell scripts to perform administrative tasks
  • Configuration experience of email clients (i.e. Outlook)
  • Understanding of various access methods such as POP, IMAP, OWA, MAPI, Outlook Anywhere and SMTP
  • Experience with various Microsoft tools like graph API, reporting web services and exchange web services
  • Working experience of Teams, Planner, Power Apps, Flow and Power BI
  • Proven experience implementing SharePoint and experience with large file migration projects
  • Stay abreast of the latest technologies to lead King County forward with leading technologies in SharePoint Online and other Microsoft 365 collaboration tools
  • Design, implement, maintain, administer and support the SharePoint online environment

  • Ability to explain complex issues in conventional terms
  • Strong written and oral communication skills; including the ability to communicate complex technical information to a non-technical audience.

Other Requirements
  • Successful completion of a criminal background check to include fingerprinting
  • Any combination of experience, education, and training that clearly demonstrates the ability to perform the job duties of the position is also acceptable
Preferred Qualifications
  • ITIL (Information Technology Infrastructure Library) certification
  • Prior experience in public sector
  • Project Management/SCRUM experience
  • MCSE (Microsoft 365) certifications
