Summary
King County Superior Court is accepting applications for a full-time Supervisor 1 in Court Operations Department. This position is eligible for benefits.
The responsibilities of this classification include assisting in planning operational goals and objectives, maintaining regular contact with judicial officers, providing daily oversight of routine operations, and supervising jury services staff in providing customer service to a high volume of jurors. Engage in routine communication with judges, bailiffs, and other court staff regarding juror needs for trials and associated juror issues. Consistent with established practices, make decisions regarding the release of jurors, excusal requests, and respond to court and juror inquiries. This position supervises Jury Services employees, provides the manager's coverage, and assists with special projects.

Work location: This position is primarily located at the King County Courthouse, 516 Third Avenue, in Seattle. The incumbent may be required to work at other Superior Court locations.
Work schedule and terms: This position is exempt from the overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act and is not overtime eligible. The court's operating hours are Monday through Friday, 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM. Variations from these hours may occur.

Job Duties
The following duties are not intended to represent the entire functional capacity of the position at the task level.
Oversee the routine daily operation of the jury room at multiple courthouse locations. Assist staff in addressing juror inquiries and monitor staff progress in meeting high volume public communications needs to ensure expected response times are met. Respond to courtroom concerns and customer complaints.
Assists with implementing process improvements, including identifying operational efficiencies for summonsing, panel creations, customer service, payment of jurors, and other areas of jury services for consideration by the manager. As needed, provide information on jury processes to judges, bailiffs, and other court personnel. Prepare training materials.
Assist with troubleshooting jury management system issues; identify enhancements and assist in collecting necessary documentation to support enhancement. Assist judges with accessing the jury management system. Assists manager with quality control of essential data collection.
Assists in the delivery of juror panels to various courts as requested. Preparation of randomized juror lists according to courtroom needs and timely response of requests to supplement initial juror panels. Assist in evaluating and managing program data; compile statistics and prepare reports.
As requested, participate in various court workgroups and committees and provide information and updates related to Jury Services. Keep informed of changes or issues related to jury service occurring locally and nationally.
Document, maintain and update processes and procedures. Update department forms, outgoing voicemail recordings, and jury website. Assist with the mailing of summons and creation of juror panels for trials.
Recruit, select, train, and supervise staff at Kent and Seattle locations. Evaluate staff performance and provides coaching, feedback, and corrective action for performance issues. Interpret policies and procedures and resolves conflicts. Routinely review staff work procedures and work products. May perform duties of any absent staff as necessary.
Perform other duties of a similar nature and level.
Experience, Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills
Bachelor's Degree in public administration or related field and three years of experience working in a court environment, including three years of supervisory experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the position's duties.
Knowledge of legal and constitutional principles; the court system, including the roles and responsibilities of court departments and related agencies; key players and case flow; organizational management theories and practices; general supervisory techniques; workload planning and scheduling; budgetary policies and procedures. Able to analyze, organize and prioritize work; adapt to changes in workload demands; multi-task and follow through. Able to interpret legal terminology and court rules and apply regulations, policies, and procedures.
Effective written and verbal communication skills, including public speaking and presentations. Able to apply effective interpersonal skills, including tact, diplomacy, persuasion, and conflict resolution. Skilled in working with diverse populations and/or emotional situations with cultural sensitivity.

Special requirements: The ability to travel reliably throughout the county is required. Finalists are subject to the Washington State Patrol criminal background check and a reference check. Criminal background records are not automatically disqualifying.
