King County Metro Transit's Facilities Division has an exciting opportunity for a Transit Equipment Operator Lead. The Transit Equipment Operator Lead is responsible for leading a crew that performs duties including operating and performing routine maintenance on a variety of heavy-duty vehicles and equipment. The Transit Equipment Operator Lead will also provide team leadership, training, direction, and work coordination of a crew to ensure safe and effective operations. Leadership by example is key in this position.

The Transit Equipment Operator Lead will help develop annual work plans, provide daily/weekly scheduling of work, monitor work for quality and quantity, and apply herbicides and pesticides. Work is performed under general supervision of Transit Facilities Superintendents and Chiefs.

This recruitment will immediately fill one (1) Career Service position. This recruitment may be used to establish an eligibility list to fill future Career Service, Term Limited Temporary, and/or Special Duty Assignment vacancies that may occur over the next twelve (12) months.

Interviews are anticipated to occur between February 13, 2023, and February 17, 2023, though dates are subject to change.

WHO MAY APPLY:

  • are currently in the classification of Transit Equipment Operator having a minimum of two (2) years' experience in that classification at Metro, or
  • have a minimum of at least two (2) years of similar experience at Metro.

Job Duties

  • Identify scope of work, prioritize daily work assignments, and assign work to employees; implement training when necessary.

  • Establish standard operating procedures and maintain records.

Experience, Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills

To be considered eligible for this role, applicants must possess these MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS :
  • Current King County employee represented by ATU Local 587 with two (2) years of current work experience as a Transit Equipment Operator OR (2) years of similar work experience.
The most competitive applicants will possess these DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS :
  • Two (2) years of professional work experience in the operation and care of heavy equipment, including applying mechanical aptitude in the use and care of equipment, or related coursework/training, or some combination thereof demonstrating the ability to perform the essential duties of the position.
  • One (1) year of work experience in a leadership or supervisory capacity , or related coursework/training, or some combination thereof demonstrating the ability to perform the essential duties of the position .
  • Knowledge of applicable service standards, operating policies, and regulations.
  • Knowledge of workload planning and scheduling.
  • Skill in heavy equipment operation, including related safety requirements.
  • Skill and mechanical aptitude in use and care of tools and equipment.
  • Ability to work and provide motivation in a team environment and with a diverse work group.
  • Ability to effectively communicate, both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to resolve conflict, solve problems, and listen effectively.
  • Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships.
  • Knowledge of workload planning and scheduling, with ability to effectively manage competing priorities.
  • Basic computer skills with knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, such as Outlook, Word, Excel, Teams, and computerized work order systems, e.g. EAM.
Necessary Special Requirements:
  • Valid Washington State Commercial Driver License (CDL) with Class A endorsement.
  • Ability to lift/move up to 50 pounds on a frequent basis.

SELECTION PROCESS

SAFETY SENSITIVE POSITION

This position is considered safety-sensitive. Applicants for positions defined as safety-sensitive are required to undergo drug testing prior to employment and, subsequent to the commencement of employment, will be subject to random, post-accident, reasonable suspicion, return to duty and follow-up drug and alcohol testing in compliance with Federal DOT alcohol and controlled substances testing program protocols.



WORK LOCATION AND SCHEDULE
The work location will be at South Maintenance Facility (11911 E Marginal Way S; Seattle, WA 98168). This position is not exempt from the provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act and is therefore overtime eligible, with prior supervisory approval. Employees must be available and willing to work any shift (day, swing, o r overnight), weekends, holidays, and call-outs. This position is not eligible for telework/remote work.

COVID-19 Vaccination Requirement
