Seattle's streetcar system. Link light rail currently spans a 33-mile route from SeaTac to Lynnwood and a 6.6-mile route
from Redmond to South Bellevue. By the end of 2026, light rail is projected to expand to nearly 60 route miles, adding
seven new stations. Additional expansions to the Link system will be coming online for years to come.
Seattle Streetcar includes the 1.3-mile South Lake Union line and the 2.5-mile First Hill line, proudly serving the diverse
and vibrant communities around Seattle's downtown core. These rail services complement Metro's extensive fixed route
bus system and mobility services. Puget Sound transit agencies are collaborating to create an integrated transit network
that enables people to travel farther, faster, and more easily.

King County Metro's Rail Division is seeking one (1) Career Service Rail Facilities Electrician Lead that will be responsible for assigning and coordinating the work of journey-level Rail Facilities Electricians. Work involves providing technical assistance and lead direction to crewmembers engaged in maintenance, repair and upgrades of the Light Rail operating facilities, supporting systems and equipment. This position works directly with the chief of facilities and responsibilities also include the coordination and oversight of work performed by outside contractors working in an assortment of crafts, engaged in variety of building and systems maintenance, and repair and enhancement. This is a working lead position, and all normal duties of a Rail Facilities Electrician will also be performed.

This position is considered safety sensitive. Applicants for these positions are required to undergo drug testing prior to employment and subsequent to commencement of employment, will be subject to random, post-accident, reasonable suspicion, return to duty, and follow-up drug and alcohol testing in compliance with Federal DOT alcohol and controlled substance testing program protocols.

Position Information
This recruitment will be used to fill one (1) Career Service Rail Facilities Electrician Lead and will be used to establish an eligibility list to fill future career service vacancies which may occur over the next twelve (12) months, at the discretion of the hiring authority.

Work Location
Employees may report to any of the following locations: Rail Operations and Maintenance Facility (OMF) Central at 3407 Airport Way S, Seattle WA 98134, OMF East 1925 120th Ave NE Bellevue WA 98005, or any additional locations that may open in the future.

Work Schedule
This non-exempt position is overtime eligible. Employee in this position must be willing and able to work one of three shifts (day, swing or graveyard), including any combination of days off. The workweek and scheduled hours may vary. Work shift is subject to change based on seniority bid system and needs of the business. In addition, this position has on-call responsibilities and must respond to emergency situations as needed. Current schedules are listed below but are subject to change based on operational needs:

All shifts are straight eights. Dayshift: 6:00am-2:00pm; Swing shift: 2:00pm-10:00pm; Graveyard: 10:00pm-6:00am

Pay Information:
First shift (Days) pay rate is $72.78 / hour.
Second shift (Swing) and Third shift (Graveyard) pay rate are both $77.14/hour.

Job Duties



In addition to performing the full range of responsibilities of the Rail Facilities Electrician ( class specification ) classification, incumbents in this classification will also perform the following duties:
  • Working leads are responsible for coordinating the work of and providing technical assistance to facilities electricians responsible for maintaining all public and operating facilities, equipment and associated components. Install, repair, modify and upgrade new and existing electrical systems, component parts and other related electrical equipment; evaluate existing equipment, provide recommendations for future electrical needs and anticipate maintenance and repair costs.
  • Schedule preventive maintenance via the MMIS (Trapeze) system
  • Assign daily work and provide technical advice to Rail Facilities Electricians; control and monitor workflow; ensure all preventive maintenance and unscheduled requests are performed; ensure electricians report equipment defects to appropriate staff; assist with daily Rail Facilities Electrician work functions
  • Respond to questions and provide technical advice on project requirements, specifications and material requirements
  • Assist in the training of other Rail Facilities Electricians on required maintenance operations, standard operating procedures and safety procedures
  • Provide feedback to the chief/superintendent on employee and teamwork performance.
  • Monitor work assignments to ensure work has been completed in a quality manner and within established timeframes.
  • Advise crew members when their work is deficient or is in violation of established regulations and procedures
  • Maintain varied records including work performed, time spent, materials used, operating logs and related information; enter and extract data using automated systems; maintain manual records as required
  • Participate in the development and implementation of a comprehensive preventative maintenance program for functions and service checks on facilities, buildings and equipment; develop specifications for and request new equipment and materials
  • Prepare job cost estimates and parts order lists; assist in budget preparation
  • Document maintenance, repairs, and problems on work orders; prepare reports and maintain records; review subordinates' paperwork
  • Open and close work orders; schedule inspections; inspect completed work assignments to ensure work has been completed in a quality manner and equipment is in proper working order
  • Troubleshoot and evaluate equipment repair needs; plan strategies, parts, tools and equipment needs; ensure all shop equipment is maintained appropriately and is in proper operating condition; report equipment defects and follow-up on completion of required repairs
  • Assist other staff with electrical troubleshooting
  • Respond to emergency situations. Prioritize and determine work priorities for emergency maintenance tasks in the absence of on-site supervision.
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Experience, Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills



In addition to possessing the journey-level knowledge and skills of the Rail Facilities Electrician classification ( class specification ), the additional qualifications must also be met:
  • Four years of journey-level work experience as an Electrician within an industrial facility environment OR any equivalent combination of experience and education which provides the applicant with the desired skills, knowledge and ability required to perform the work
  • Ability to plan, assign, coordinate, and oversee the work of others
  • Skill in training and providing technical assistance
  • Ability to communicate effectively with a diverse work group across multiple shifts and sections
  • Adhere to and promote Rail Division Behavioral Expectations and King County's Non-discrimination, Anti-Harassment & Inappropriate Conduct Policy
  • Skill in working with a variety of individuals from diverse backgrounds and in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships.
The most competitive candidates will have the following desirable qualifications
  • NICET I/II (National Institute for Certification in Engineering Technologies), FA-1/FA-ITM, or SC-1/SC-ITM (Smoke Control)
  • At least twelve months of professional lead experience in recent 5 years
Necessary Special Requirements
  • Washington State Driver's License with acceptable driving record
  • Washington State Journey Electrician Certificate - EL-01 and ability to maintain
  • Able to work in confined spaces with appropriate safety precautions and equipment
  • Able to work on ladders and in motorized reach equipment in excess of 60 ft.
  • Must obtain type FA-1 license from the City of Seattle Fire Department within 6 months after obtaining NICET II
  • Must obtain NICET II (National Institute for Certification in Engineering Technologies) within 24-months of hire and ability to maintain
Work Environment
Work is performed in confined spaces with appropriate safety precautions and equipment. Electricians will work on ladders and in motorized reach equipment in excess of 60 ft.
