- Summary
This position performs cleaning of the interiors of buses and other vehicles, and related tasks, at various Metro locations and on day, swing or graveyard shifts.
Utility Service Workers in the Vehicle Maintenance section may be assigned to one of seven maintenance bases throughout King County and work one of three shifts (day, swing and graveyard). New hires frequently are assigned to the swing and night shifts. They may have mid-week regular days off (Tuesday-Wednesday, Monday-Tuesday, etc.). Swing and graveyard shift employees receive a shift pay differential. Employees may work a 40 hour per week schedule and are eligible for overtime pay if scheduled. Work schedules and locations are based on a seniority "pick" system, which occurs three times a year. Employees must be able and willing to work any shift, at any location.

This recruitment will be used to fill immediate Career Service, Special Duty and Temporary Term Limited (TLT) vacancies and may be used to create an eligibility list for future Career Service, Special Duty, and term-limited-temporary vacancies in the next 12 months.
WAGE NOTE: Day shift positions: $18.75-26.49 2nd-Shift: $19.69-$27.81 3rd Shift: $20.16- $28.48
Work location: This position may work at any of Metro's seven transit bases around King County, including bases in Downtown Seattle, Shoreline, Bellevue, and Tukwila.
Work schedule: Employees may be assigned to the day, swing, or graveyard shifts, with varying days off, not necessarily occurring on the weekend. The most likely vacancies will occur on swing/graveyard shifts. This position is FLSA non-exempt and is eligible for overtime.

JOB DUTIES:Applying equity and social justice principles is a daily responsibility and a foundational expectation for all King County employees. - Pick up trash, empty waste containers, and remove chewing gum.
- Wash seats, windows, interior panels, ceilings, and remove graffiti, occasionally using strong cleaning solutions and specialized equipment.
- Remove and replace damaged seats, using small hand tools.
- Perform simple numeric record-keeping tasks, by hand, to keep track of coaches cleaned.
- Report to the immediate supervisor buses that are in need of repair.
- May perform work in cold weather conditions, such as repairing chains and filling both sanding and salting equipment.
- May perform other duties as assigned
EXPERIENCE, QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS:- Good communication skills for the purposes of being able to read, write, and follow written and verbal instructions.
- Ability to exchange or provide routine information using ordinary courtesy and conversation skills.
- Possession of a valid Washington State driver's license or alternative ability to travel to assigned Metro base locations when public transportation is not available.
- Ability to accurately perform simple numeric and alphabetic record keeping tasks by hand.
- Ability to work independently without supervision including requesting additional assignments when another is completed.
- Ability to work effectively as a member of a team. Demonstrated punctuality, dependability, and regular, reliable attendance.

- Related experience and recent familiarity with cleaning equipment and products

SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION:
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
This position requires sustained physical effort, including frequent walking, standing, bending, crouching, kneeling, twisting and arm motion involving reaching overhead to clean coach ceilings. Utility Service Workers will occasionally be asked to move and lift objects weighing up to 50 pounds and heavier objects with assistance.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Work is performed both indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions with exposure to dust, exhaust fumes, wetness, chemical spray and cleaning agents.
Applications will be screened for completeness and to determine whether candidates meet minimum qualifications. The most competitive candidates will possess one or more of the desired qualifications noted above. The most competitive candidates may be invited to participate in a skills test and panel interview. Those who interview successfully will be processed for hire or placed on an eligibility list for placement into vacancies as they occur. Once a conditional offer of employment has been made, being hired will be contingent on passing all requirements outlined for this position, which will include satisfactory reference checks and a physical examination.
