- Summary
King County Metro Transit is seeking a highly motivated individual to join the Service Planning team within Metro’s Service Development Section. Service Planning is responsible for designing, developing, and recommending transit service changes to improve performance, meet customer needs, and progress toward agency goals including social justice. Service Planning is committed to advancing equity, inclusion, and social justice in the development of service and through collaborative work with stakeholders and the public. We coordinate closely and engage directly with transit riders and the general public, other Metro groups, and partners including Sound Transit, Seattle Department of Transportation and local jurisdictions in King County.
The Transportation Planner III will proactively lead efforts to improve and redesign transit service in Seattle and King County. We are seeking an individual who can manage complex projects, lead and represent Metro on intra- and inter-agency teams, and support and lead stakeholder engagement and outreach on transit service changes.
The Transportation Planner II will support service planning efforts as part of a team with other planners. We are seeking an individual who can support and contribute to complex projects, take part in and represent Metro on intra- and inter-agency teams, and support stakeholder engagement and outreach on transit service changes.
Planners in either position will be involved in efforts such as managing the bus service redesign to integrate with Link light rail extensions or future RapidRide lines, and ongoing service planning to support Metro’s COVID-19 recovery. The successful candidate will possess strong project management skills, be familiar with transit service and customer needs, be highly proficient at analysis and evaluation, be able to communicate well in a variety of means, and center on equity and social justice in their work. They will excel at building and fostering partnerships with internal and external stakeholders, including the City of Seattle and other jurisdictions and agencies, and bring a mindset of continuously improving planning processes and outcomes in one of the fastest changing and innovative places in the country.
This recruitment will be used to fill one career service Transportation Planner III OR Transportation Planner II position and may be used to create a pool which could be used for upcoming term-limited temporary, career service, short term temporary, and special duty assignment Transportation Planner III or Transportation Planner II positions on the Service Planning team.

The Transportation Planner III position is exempt from the provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act, and is therefore not eligible for overtime pay.
The Transportation Planner II position is subject to the provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act, and therefore is eligible for overtime pay with supervisor approval.
The work schedule for both positions is Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m., but may require some work outside of the normal workday. Upon passing a probationary period, more flexible schedules such as 9/80s are available.
TEMPORARY TELECOMMUTING REQUIREMENT
The work associated with this position will be performed remotely, at least through July 5, 2021 in compliance with King County’s telecommuting mandate. Employees will be provided with a County issued laptop and must maintain a workspace with an internet connection where they can reliably perform work and remain available and responsive during scheduled work hours. Employees must reside in WA state and within a reasonable distance to their King County worksite to respond to workplace reporting requirements. There will be situations where the employee is required to report to a County worksite. Please note that when an employee conducts work that is likely to bring them in contact with another individual, safety precautions are required by the department in alignment with the Public Health Directive from the Seattle & King County Public Health Officer.
