Job Duties
King County is the local service provider for the roughly quarter-million people who live in the unincorporated areas of the county; taken together, Unincorporated King County would be the second-largest city in the state. The Department of Local Services includes a Director's Office with a Community Service Area group, and the Road Services and Permitting Divisions. Together, this department provides a single executive point of accountability for delivery of local services to all of unincorporated King County.
The King County Road Services Division designs, builds, operates and maintains roads and bridges in unincorporated areas of King County in an efficient and environmentally responsible manner to protect the public's investment and facilitate safe travel. The division is committed to ensuring the county's transportation system is safe and efficient for all uses and modes of travel. The Division is responsible for 1,500 miles of road and 182 bridges, 5.7 million feet of drainage ditches, over 44,000 traffic control signs, 78 traffic signals, and 50 traffic cameras in unincorporated King County.

Job Duties
- Inspect vehicles for safety and perform minor preventive maintenance and manual tasks to correct issues;
- Safely drive, secure, and operate a truck and trailer in connection with the transportation of equipment, asphalt, sand, gravel, and other materials and with a snowplow attachment;
- Drive a truck equipped with a variety of equipment; including Sander, Snow Plow, Anti Icer tank, water storage tank, and pump;
- Drive and spread gravel, salt, oil asphalt, and other materials used for road maintenance;
- Drive and operate a vactor truck for cleaning catch basins, and drainage pipes;
- Adhere to OSHA and WISHA regulations including proper use of safety gear;
- Other duties as assigned.
- Are knowledgeable and can adhere to federal, state, and county mandated safety regulations and policies and procedures for proper truck height and weight restrictions, inspections, securing equipment, driving laws, and defensive driving skills;
- Ability to drive and operate with a load capacity of up to twelve yards, and with a gross weight of over 26,000 lbs.;
- Ability to maneuver a large truck in inclement weather and in high-density traffic;
- Ability to read maps;
- Are knowledgeable of heavy manual labor activities;
- Have the ability to follow verbal and written instructions;
- Have basic knowledge of safety procedures;
- Are comfortable performing work outdoors and in inclement weather;
- Have the ability to demonstrate behaviors that include fairness, respect, and inclusiveness;
- Are skilled in working with diverse stakeholders and maintaining effective relationships;
- Is a team player and understands the value of working as a team and being reliable.
- This position is represented by Teamsters, Local 174;
- This recruitment may be used to fill additional vacancies, to include Term Limited Temporary, and Full-Time positions, for up to 6 months;
- The typical work schedule during spring/summer months is Mon-Thur for 10-hour days. During fall/winter, we move to a Mon-Fri schedule with 8-hour shifts. It is possible that this position may work an 8-hour night shift during fall/winter. This position is non-exempt from the Fair Labor Standards Act and is overtime eligible. Working after-hours, weekends, and holidays may be required in emergency circumstances, such as during inclement weather, and on special projects. Overtime hours, weekends, and holidays vary upon business demand, season and weather.
- Successfully pass a pre-employment physical, including lifting up to 50 lbs;
- Submit to drug testing and test negative for presence of controlled substances; sign a Consent Form for release of Information for each employer for the past three (3) years; and successfully pass a background check for Alcohol and Controlled Substances testing, and a CDL background information check;
- Have a valid Washington State Class A Commercial Driver's License and Medical certification prior to the Practical Exam date, without the following restrictions: L - No Air Brake equipped CMV Z - No Full air brake equipped CMV E - No Manual transmission equipped CMV.
- Work Location: Various locations throughout King County, WA. The main headquarters is located in Renton with outlying maintenance shops in: Black Diamond, Vashon, Skykomish, Fall City, and Redmond.
- Selected candidate(s) hired to work on Vashon Island must reside on Vashon or Maury Island at the time of appointment;
Selected candidate(s) hired to work at the Black Diamond, Vashon, Skykomish, Fall City, and Redmond must reside no more than 30 minutes from the pit site at the time of appointment.
