Summary
King County's Finance and Business Operations Division, Business Development & Contract Compliance section, is seeking an Undergrad Intern!
We are seeking an undergrad intern who is action-oriented, is eager to try new things, and has a drive for results. This opportunity will provide personal development and exposure to various aspects of public sector finance and business operations while in partnership with seasoned staff mentors.
Work Schedule: This position is anticipated to start in May or June and will last through the 2023-2024 school year. Typically, our interns work full-time in the summer months and an average of 10 to 20 hours weekly during the school year.
Learning Objective:
This internship will deliver outstanding customer service in working with county project managers, contractors, and others to support contract monitoring and compliance activities for the Diversity Compliance Management System in the Business Development and Contract Compliance Section. Working knowledge of Microsoft Excel is necessary.
The Finance and Business Operations Division's mission is to provide exceptional customer value for accounting, procurement, treasury, and small business services. We are actively seeking employees whose behavior is in alignment with our division's core values.
Other Position Information:
This position is Non-Exempt from the provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act and is therefore is overtime eligible. This position is not represented. These internships will be working from 10 hours to a maximum of 40 hours per week, depending on the assignment area and school schedule. During the summer full time work the hours are typically Monday - Thursday 7:00am - 5:00pm, Friday 7:00am - 11:00am.
The work associated with this position will primarily be remote with some in-person activities as needed.
Employees must reside in Washington state and within a reasonable distance to their King County worksite to respond to workplace reporting requirements.
Employees will be provided with a County issued laptop. When working remotely employees must maintain a workspace with an internet connection (access may be supplemented in some situations) where they can reliably perform work and remain available and responsive during scheduled work hours. Please note that when an employee conducts work that is likely to bring them in contact with another individual, safety precautions are required, including the wearing of masks in some situations. King County is doing its part to reduce the spread of COVID-19 and remains committed to reducing our carbon footprint.

- Perform routine system administration, maintenance, and documentation. Participate in audit preparation, and maintenance of data integrity.
- Track, troubleshoot and resolve system problems and issues of limited scope following established guidelines and standard work and procedures.
- Participate in gathering data and preparing analysis.
- Participate in preparing in researching requirements and maintaining tables and records.
- Update standard work processes and operating procedures.
- Communicate routinely with customers; provide information and assistance on routine questions involving system processes and procedures to navigate an online reporting database.
- Update standard queries following established procedures. Develop routine reports; document tables and data used in the preparation of reports and queries.
- Participate in process improvement as a team member in support of reporting systems, work in partnership with experienced functional analysts in testing system interfaces and enhancements.
